K/R Dresses and a shrug

Yes, I know, I was weak. They just jumped into my cart!

pic#1- Ponte knit A-Line. While DH loves this, I think it might be too big. Size down, however, is sold out.

pic#2 - Pale blue ponte knit A-line in a petite. Wondering if this is too similar to my mint fit and flare dress.

pic#3 Blue wrap dress DH insisted I show you.

pic#4 Strange angle on the pic, but then DD was really acting up. Looking for a topper
for my mint green dress and struck out on a lot of them. They were either too thin and not really a cardi or they were too long. This was the best of the bunch. Thoughts on length? Color?

I really like the colour of #1 on you, but I agree that it's probably a bit big - is it tailorable?

#3 - I see why DH likes this one! It's actually quite pretty and I like the way it gives you a nice shape. What do you think of it?

#4 - not too fond of this topper; it looks kind of bridal? Maybe because it's both white and long sleeved?

#3 is my favorite, you are amazing in wraps, it is your signature style! I also like #1 - not sure about the size and whether an adjustment in the shoulders would fix it. Less like #2 and not sure about the topper in #4.

I was going to return the blue wrap, and he was like "go show it to the ladies". hehe, glad I did! Wraps really work for me, and this is a unique pattern. I did pick it up on sale as it is deemed a "winter" dress because of the sleeves, I think.

I have learned I prefer to layer under wrap dresses so they keep their shape, which would make this one good even in my frigid office.

#1 keep and have it altered, #2 too similar to your mint fit & flare, #3 keep, it ooks fab as is, #4 return the shrug, keep looking.

Love the colors of #1 and #3 on you!

I think all the opinions are unanimous.

I don't know if #1 can be altered. The color and style are great for you.
#2, something off about the fit or drape.
#3, as Shevia says, this is your signature, and wow does it look good.
#4, I think one of the most brilliant things Angie ever said (I talk about it with my daughters) is to look for dresses that don't require a topper. Because dang, it's hard to get them looking right.

I agree with the others #3 is fab. #1 should be an easy fix - just needs a dart at the side imo.

I really like #3. Perhaps return #2 to get that watercolor #1 linked dress from your other post? I think the solid cranberry could be useful... but I am stuck on that watercolor one. I am about to go pin it!

That wrap is beyond fantastic! Again, it's such a great shape for you. I also like #1. I hope there is potential to have it tailored.

Absoutely on #3 --- it's not just the shape, either. That color is stunning. This would look great under a black blazer for work, or with heels and hose for dinner out. Tell DH this is a dinner-out dress.

I think #1 could use a shoulder alteration or a bustline dart. I also feel like your mint dress fits the bill better than the new blue.

#3 is a winner! Love the color in #1, but it looks a bit large. I'm not so fond of the shrug/topper. Maybe a more tailored topper would be a better option?

Love 1 and 3. For 1 I would put 2 diagonal darts from where the armhole gaps pointing towards the front bustline, and it's all done!:-)

#3 is a keeper, no question! Agree with others that #1 is worth looking into alterations.

Thistle, I agree with the other ladies. Wraps look really good on you; your DH was spot on.
Keep # 1 if it can be altered. Not so sure about the shrug. I like it but I'm not sure about it with that colour dress. Keep looking......the right piece is out there.

3 is a keeper and has sleeves for your dominent season. Keep 1 if you are willing to get it tailored. 2 and 4 look too pale for you in the photos. Your other mint dress is better.

Another vote for #3! Mr. Thistle has a good eye

I really like the cream shrug worn over the mint frock. But the black tights and boots are too heavy for the rest of the outfit. With black, you need to bookend the top part of your outfit. Ladies with black hair do this automatically.

Hmmmm. How about a black topper?

Hedgiehog - All of the dresses above were spontaneous Kohl's purchases. I haven't shopped for myself there in years, but they carry Carter's clothes, and I love the 100% cotton of those for DD, they are cute, and very inexpensive compared to my Gymboree spending.

I also buy a lot from Nordstrom's. I have had a bit of a tougher time there as each brand fits differently. Maggy London has become a quick favorite. I have an Eilleen Fischer skirt on the way as IK has said great things about that line.

Ann Taylor is another favorite. Really like some of their new spring offerings, but resisting!

Talbots, while known for frump, I think makes terrific basics. Their clothes fit me right off the rack, same size, every time. They make machine washable work clothes, and they hold up well. My mint dress is from there, but they don't show it with a topper.

So glad you're keeping #3! I think #2 is too pale for you as it washes you out a bit. Since you don't yet have a trusted tailor, I'm wondering if you should return #1 so that it doesn't languish in your closet. It is a great color on you, so maybe a wrap dress in that color is waiting for you just around the corner.

Another vote for the blue wrap - you look stunning in wraps, Thistle. I also really like the color in #1. The cream colored shrug is very pretty, I think - what Angie said.

The blue dress is fantastic of course! I like the pink one too. I was wondering if a longer cardi would be better. I have a very similar shrug and think this particular shape of shrug minimizes the upper body too much, making the hips a bit too prominent. It's a hard length to wear it seems.

#3 is gorgeous on you! And your husband sounds just like mine. He is always asking me, "What do the ladies say?"

You are running into the same problem I do when it comes to "winterizing" spring/ summer dresses. Most of my tights and footwear in winter is dark, because that is what is mostly available. But like you, I have light hair. So that means I pretty much have to wear a dark topper to bookend if the dress itself is not dark. It can feel quite limiting at times, which was one reason I was glad to see the Petty snakeskin booties. But then again, as far as I know, white tights have not yet come back into style. So I'm still left with the problem of how to dress my legs for the freezing temps.

Thanks for the details, Thistle. I know precisely what you mean about Gymboree! I have two daughters and I was hooked from the start. I knew I had a problem when the sales people knew me by name. But the girls always looked so cute.....(sigh)

As for me, I have a difficult time finding the right garments to fit my larger bottom half. I think I gravitate towards Talbots because they carry petite plus and their heritage fit bottoms work well on me; although I am conscious of avoiding the frump factor. I like Ann Taylor Loft as well but have never tried fitting into bottoms there because I thought I was too large. I always stuck to their tops.....might have to try now. Same for Maggy London.....Sometimes I find myself settling for a garment because I can't find anything better.
You have inspired me to keep looking for the right cut and fit.

Ann Taylor Loft and Ann Taylor both carry up to a size 18. I don't like the fit of Loft, but love the regular AT. No idea if they truly have a different fit, or if I have had bad luck at Loft.

I have only ever bought Maggy London dresses, and dresses are way easier for me to fit. Especially wrap, fit and flare, and A lines. They reduce the need to fit perfectly over my hips.

And I still love Talbots!
