#1 - Green shirt dress. I really like the idea, however, I fail in the execution. The dress seems to fit fine, but when I move, buttons gap. So, I am just not thinking I would ever be comfortable in it.

#2 - Dark Green Empire waisted dress. I am thinking to keep clear of Empire wasited dresses. It seems to rob me of my waist, and adding a belt would not really be an option.

#3, Red Empire waisted dress. Not sure if the fit is correct. It felt a bit big (it is the same dress as in #2, a size bigger and in red). Again, I think I might need to stay away from empire waists.

#4 and #5 Same black dress, one belted one not belted.

Good for you for trying all of these. I see what you mean, and I agree that you shouldn't hide your waist. Have you ever tried a printed wrap dress? I have a feeling you would look smashing in one.

ETA: Also (because you mentioned it) wrap dresses adjust easily if you become pregnant again. I've dressed women up to 5 months pregnant in them and the style/cut is very adaptable.

I don't think any of these are great for you but I don't think you should turn your back on the empire waist entirely. Maybe a fit and flare dress would work that is quit fitted in the bust and flairs out from there. Or like claire says, maybe a wrap dress. I also think you could go a bit shorter.

You have a waist, so celebrate it. I think wrap dresses are a great idea for you.

I'm not in love with any of these:( Even with the belt it looks "bulky" from under your arms to your waist - I think you need to keep this area smooth & skimming your body. The right shaped wrap or empire-line would do this.

Agreed that a wrap would be the way to go. I don't think these style flatter your figure. I am wondering if you might do better with solid matching separates that create the illusion of a dress but give better figure definition:)

Thistle I agree that these may not be the ones, but your dress(es) are out there waiting for you! I don't think empire waist is necessarily the problem. I think a wrap or faux wrap dress would be great, as would fit and flare that skims over the belly and hips. My other suggestions would be to look for dresses that are 1) prints (breaks up the monotone look and distracts the eye) 2) V neck rather than conservative high scoop necks (elongate and show off your pretty chest! You can wear a cami if you want more coverage) 3) shorter skirts--just above the knee looks youthful and less frumpy and shows off your nice legs 4) Ruching and/or draping at the waist to camouflage the tummy 5) swap out the self colored belt for a thicker, interesting belt (like your pic #5 compared to #1, but I think you have the figure to handle an even bolder wider belt). These are some of the lessons I've learned myself when looking for dresses, anyways...hope they might help. And I agree, look at Kari's WIW's! She rocks dresses like no other busty hourglass! You can do it--keep looking!

Thistle, you're getting really good advice here (skip shirt dresses and try a wrap style). I'm just chiming in to say that I highly recommend sticking with a FAUX WRAP style and avoiding true wraps. A true wrap can be a nightmare on a windy day, and is not worth the fear it creates of having it unwrap.
