I'm sorry for being such a forum hog lately! I'll try to settle down. I'm posting again because a dress that I ordered for my Caribbean cruise arrived today. I'm undecided about it, can you help me make up my mind whether I should keep it or send it back and keep looking for something else?

A couple of ladies warned me that wind might be an issue on the beach so I would be better off wearing a longer rather than a shorter skirt. Because I never do anything halfway (haha), I picked out a maxi dress. This one may actually be too long for the beach, so I could wear it to a formal night and find something else for the beach.

The good things:

- love the colors and the print

- the fit is just right

- hubby likes it

The bad/iffy things:

- I bought this one rather than some others because the fiber content wasn't 100% poly. It's 60% rayon and 40% poly. I thought that would leave it somewhat breathable. Unfortunately, the published fiber content didn't take into consideration the lining, which is 100% poly.

- It's a maxi dress (iffy on this style)

- sleeveless - I'm self-conscious about my arms. I'd prefer to keep them covered.. I also feel like it makes me look bigger than usual. See picture 3.

Pictures 1-2: Wearing flat sandles
Pictures 3-4: Wearing 4 inch heels. I'd need shorter ones. My daughter also insisted that I'd need a pink fan.

Amy, YLF! The maxi dress is gorgeous and the vibrant colours suit you so well. And maxis are absolutely fine for the beach. I like them with flats as well as heels. You could pair them with heels for dinner or a formal evening and with flats for chilling on the beach. You gotta keep this one.

Is the lining a woven poly or a mesh poly? I found that mesh breathes fine for summer, but I'd feel like I was wearing shrink wrap otherwise. If breathability is a main concern, then I'd probably pass... I guess it depends how hot you expect the beach to be?

I'm not sure about this Amy... I can't figure out if it's a day or night dress which might mean wardrobe orphan. Although I do like the print, it seems very cruise-appropriate.

I think a knee length dress with a swim suit underneath would solve the windy beach issue, plus you'd get more wear out of it.

It's a great dress, Amy-colors and fit suits you so well, and am somehow with Denise on this one only from another point of view: if you cannot figure out if it's a night or day dress, I say it means it's versatile enough to keep. But like she says further, a knee length dress(in linen or cotton) would also be required for that cruise, I think.

Amy on one hand this looks quite lovely and on the other hand I'm just not sure about it. Having pondered for a moment I think the dress is a little ordinary for you. It's almost too stereotypically cruise wear:). I am used to seeing you wear outfits with a bit more interest and spunk. Don't get me wrong it looks nice, I'm just not sure it's really "you"

Well I think you look wonderful in it. I'd vote to keep. Perhaps, as Lyn says get another linen mix knee length one as well?

I think it's very pretty and the colors do suit you beautifully. I only wonder if you will wear it anytime outside of the cruise? If not and it wasn't too expensive then maybe it doesn't matter, but if you are hoping to get more wear out of it, it may be less useful. It does look really great on you though.

I love the colors but would pass on all that polyester, especially if you have reservations about going sleeveless. You deserve to feel not only fab but comfortable in your clothes, especially on a cruise!

I love the colours and fit on you and can see that it would be a lovely addition for a cruise. If you are unsure could you bring it, tags intact, and see how you feel once there?

I can't attest to breath ability of poly. But, during my trip to Hawaii, I loved long cotton maxis and bathing suits with sarongs. Hawaii is a pretty casual place, and a cotton maxi was plenty dressy for even the nicest restaurants.

If you think it can breathe, I like it on you it looks lovely. Your arms are beautiful and look lovely with the dress. But will you have to be comfortable baring them. Being self conscious isn't worth the most lovely dress.

Huh? You have great arms. Truly I am confused.
I like the dress and I think it's perfect for both cruise and wedding (provided it's not too hot), but as others have mentioned, not sure it's fully you or something you would wear back at home. I think it's fine to have holiday-only clothes though, and when I go to resorts I find myself wanting brighter colours, florals etc that I don't wear at home in the big city.

I think it looks totally appropriate for a beach wedding, and I think you look smashing in it, but you have to decide if you'll bake in it. I like the idea of a maxi for cruise and resortwear. I wear mine around the house in the summer because it's cool (but I think it's cotton/rayon). I think the large scale print and the old evil flat photograph gives the illusion of bigger but IRL I bet it is floaty? Your daughter is spot on with the fan choice.

I think you can find something that suits you better and is more comfortable. I'd look for a midi instead of a maxi. In cotton or cotton blend.

You are all so smart, thank you. I don't think I'd ever wear this at home, even in the summer. I probably should look for something I could wear during the summers even when at home or for evening wear that would work for the opera or symphony, etc. As pretty as it is, in some respects, I'm going to return.

Amy first, I think you have great arms and I think you should definitely show them. While you look great in the dress, I think you should explore more options. It doesn't seem right for a cruise formal night, I would go with a cocktail dress for that. This seems more beachy, but I worry about the poly blend being too hot. You will definitely find some beautiful options, you wear clothes so well!

I'm late to the party! You are beautiful, Amy, and your arms can see the light of day with no worries. That said, I agree that there are more phenomenal dresses out there for you. I think it should be a dress that you'd at least want to wear again at home, even if you rarely have an event for it. I do love the boldness of the print and the v-neck.

Amy, I understand about the arms because I'm self-conscious about mine, but I swear your arms look awesome. Incidentally, I think you and I have similar body types.

That said, I think the dress looks good on you, but I'm not sure I'm sold either. There's a lot I like about it, but I'm not sure it's fab enough for you.

I have one maxi dress that I never wear except on vacations like the one you're about to take. It's a color I almost never wear (shades of pink and white in a graphic floral) and has a pretty revealing neckline that I can't wear a bra with, so it works in, say, Cabo, but not in Annapolis. I keep it because it fills a need in the dressy-enough-for-dinner-in-a-casual-vacation-locale capsule, but it will probably never achieve a low CPW. Some garments are just meant to be vacation-wear!

It's pretty, but the all-poly liner is a killer in a tropical climate.

You have great arms, I'd definitely try more sleeveless dresses in the future.

Hmm I feel like you need a more whimsical/conversation type print than flowers. Or perhaps a less conventional floral print.

I like the concept, but agree with some of the pros who have spoken here, that a maxi may not get additional future wears (I have one sleeveless # and can attest
to this). Plus, you have a very unique and vibrant spirit (see your poses!) and a less conventional theme may be the ticket here, thinking outside the box. Flowing palazzos may be fun in a bright color?!
