K/R: cutout combat boots - YouLookFab Forum

Here are the Matiko cutout combat boots I ordered from UO. Not styled although the last pic is with my loungewear dress which is actually similar in skirt shape to something I might wear with these.

They are very comfy, and because they're lace-up there is no FPE. On one foot I am wearing a low cut footie that is not visible, and on the other (visible in pic #1) I am wearing a higher cut one that I think actually works as well (which makes me think I might be able to wear black athletic anklets with these and still have a cutout vibe). The laces are rather on the long side (because I had to pull them quite tight in the instep and ankle) but I can get shorter ones. The side laces (across the cutout) are actually individual and separate from the center laces.

I will try to get some styled pics tomorrow.

The fit on these looks good, but to my eye the way the cut outs are designed just makes me think there's something wrong with the boots, not that they're intentional. So I voted nay. Feel free to ignore me.

I am loving these. Let's see them styled, but I'm expecting them to be brilliant. Laces are brilliant. Laces + booties + cut outs = brilliant.

I keep coming back to this. So cute with your dress! I may have to buy these for my DD, she'd be all over these for sure. And I had this thought... what if you replaced the laces? White laces? For contrast?

I am also thinking about my new lace wedges... hmmm...

Or have I gone over the deep end? (it has admittedly been quite the long day)

Killer if you sort out the unending length of the laces. Don't mind the self-colour footie at all. That's a 2014 little styling addition.

Those are so cute! I have to admit I don't know if I would dare: what about the sock factor? No socks? Pantyhose? I have been wanting some cut out or perforated boots that I saw on Spartoo from Dkode... they have some interesting models, but can't decide if its really what I want this season...a bit afraid of having a hot foot if its too warm, even with the ventilation!

Thanks, everyone! I really like these too so I think they are keepers. They are MUCH more comfortable than the other cutout boots that I've tried. And I don't know why the toe looked so huge in the stock photos... they are actually a very well-proportioned size and shape.

Jeanne, yes, I am definitely going to try some colored socks underneath. Until it gets warmer that will probably be how I'll wear them. Either ones the height of the boot or even maybe scrunched over the top. I am a 90s girl at heart after all.

Angie, I will definitely either get shorter laces or I will try one of those cool alternative lacing methods. There are some that I know use a lot more lace. I don't want to just cut these because they actually need to be used to get the boot on and off so they'll get a lot of action and I don't want them to fray.

Shiny, contrast color laces would be a fun touch! Or ribbon laces even.

Sara, I actually just purged all of my bright colored tights as I never felt good wearing them and they seem quite dated to me now. I did keep a couple of dark colored pairs though.

I hear you, Diana. Cutting laces is tricky. I like your creative solutions to making them shorter though.

Does this mean that the teal cut-out booties are going back?

Yes, I took them back to UO this morning. I decided they were a bit uncomfortable without true socks (the buckle was right on top of my ankle bone), plus both J and I thought they were a little too "cowboy" looking.
