K/R Cowboy boots! - YouLookFab Forum

I took everyone's advice and went to an actual Western boot store today to try on some cowboy boots. I'm glad I did, because a few of the styles I liked online turned out not to work at all.

I ended up with these Abilenes (the clerk said they're great for country line dancing, which I have never done and never intend to do, but OK). They're SOOOOO comfortable and I think they look good, but I wanted to run the color/height/etc by you guys.

1. With skinnies (ignore my pajama top)

2. I want to wear them to a gig in two weeks with this dress - the angle is odd, but it comes just above the knee. I'll be sitting in with a friend's roots/Americana band at a private party, and I really want to try the cowboy boots with a dress. Yea or Nay? Remember it's a gig, so OK to look a little more costumey than normal.

I think it looks good either way (more with the skinnies, but I'm biased). Comfortable shoes are good shoes Keep!

That sounds like a brilliant combination and very apt for the occasion. But have you tried them on together? Just to check the hem won't fight with the top of the boots...

Yes, they are keepers, IMO. I have always heard that a proper western boot is really comfortable. I think that it will work with the dress.

I think the boots a keepers! They look good with the jeans, and if the fit is perfect and comfortable than they were meant to be yours. Good fit is so important, especially with cowboy boots!

I think the boots look great. And if they're good for line dancing, they'll probably be pretty comfy when your wearing them on a gig.

I think they are very cool and I look forward to seeing them with a dress. I'm so not a country girl, but I always wonder if I could try this look sometime. I think I deserve a pair of cowboy boots in my closet!

Angie, too light? Too dark? I almost bought a darker chocolate brown pair but they didn't fit as comfortably as these - they were a little looser.

The clerk said these would darken up a bit as they age and when I use the leather conditioner on them.

As promised, here are the boots with the dress. Definitely too costumey for every day but for a gig, I feel like it works. Given that its winter, would you add nude microfishnets or anything?

Do the boots work, color-wise? I feel pretty good about them but would love more opinions.

I like them! They look good with the dress too.

My tan cowboy boots have darkened a bit over the years. I bought a pair of tan booties last year, but I keep reaching for the cowboy boots instead -- they're just so darn comfortable, and I still get compliments on them every time I wear them. I wear them for travel a lot because they're easy to slip on and off at the airport and they keep my feet dry and comfortable in a variety of weather situations. I think you'll enjoy these.

Wondering if black poiished cowboy boots would bookend your hair better. Not sure what other clothes you are going to wear them but I like glossy black with the dress you show. These from http://www.sheplers.com.

The first are Ariat, a brand I've found to be super comfortable. The second are Laredo, and I like the high gloss.

Absolutely! Just as a blonde can wear black.....I just prefer cowboy boots to be dressy and glossy to highlight the tooling.
