K/R: Color blocked dress

Some of you may remember this dress from my wish list at the beginning of the season. I thought it would be a fun way to try the color blocking trend. When I went to try it on in stores it was still full price ($75) and the only options were XS (too small) and M (too big). A week ago I saw that the dress was on sale for $38 online and the S was in stock, so I thought I’d give it a shot. It arrived today and here are some pics of me trying it on. I have concerns about the neckline, but I could make it work-appropriate by layering it over a tee or camisole. I would definitely switch the belt out for a different one, but I have no idea what shoes I might wear. Thoughts? Is it a keeper? If so, any styling suggestions?

I love the dress on you and the neckline does not bother me at all. I would add denim jacket and some cute sandals, or blazer like in Angie's recent post on ensemble with fit&flare dress. Is it navy or black?

Thanks for the reminder about Angie's recent post on fit and flare dress ensembles! I think I commented that I'd like to try her ideas once I found the right dress.

The dress is navy with yellow and white color blocking.

I think its a great dress on you and I don't think its too low cut. Add a blazer and pair of heels, great work outfit. put on some dressy sandals and jewelry and its appropriate for night out.

Cute dress! I like the combination of navy and yellow and the dress seems to fit you really well. The neckline looks fine to me but I can see how it might be a problem at work (I never like feeling like everyone can look down my shirt if I lean over a table during a meeting). A camisole underneath or a jacket on top could solve that problem.

What a great dress! I'm in love with navy at the moment. If it fits well and is comfortable, I'd say it's a keeper. You got a great deal on it and it looks like the style of dress that could take you almost anywhere!

I think it's great on you! it'll be fun to try with different belts. As for shoes, I'd go with a substantial heeled taupe/saddle sandal, I think.

Love this dress on you! What brand is it? It looks very nice, I wouldn't hesitate to wear it to work. You can add a white cami if you're really concerned but it doesn't look too low cut at all. I will be very upset with you if you don't keep it! (or send it to me!). I would wear it with beige, cream or yellow pumps. I like it with the current belt, actually. Or how about orange belt and orange pumps to change it up?

I think it looks beautiful but I do hear you on the cleavage issue :). I'm not a fan of camisoles, so I don't know how it would work with one, especially since it's such a tailored, crisp dress.

Natalie, the dress is MNG by Mango (available at JCP). It is a very nice summer dress. It's lined without being heavy. And it's funny you should suggest an orange belt. I had that same idea but quickly dismissed it bc I thought the look might be ALGO. Now you've got me considering it again : )

modgirl, it's navy- my favorite shade of blue. I have camis in both black and navy, so I'll have to see how it looks.

Thanks for the styling ideas, especially the shoe suggestions! I am such a novice in the shoe department, but with help from YLFers I'm learning!

What a lovely dress Jewell! I love the fit and flare style and the colours. I agree about popping a cami underneath for work situations but it can be worn without for an evening out. Love the idea of a denim jacket overtop. Different footwear, handbags and jewelry will make this a versatile piece in your wardrobe.

Great dress! You look absolutely gorgeous. I thought you could always add a cami if you would like to cover up a bit, but they Angie chimed in with the lace cami suggestion which would be absolutely wonderful. Angie is a genious!

Such a beautiful dress! I think a camisole as per Angie's suggestion would be perfect. I could see ballet flats with this or sandals. Its beautiful. Cropped tailored jacket for work and cropped denim jacket for play.
