K/R chevron skirt & dolman top?

I had a bit of a look in the shops today to update my autumn / winter wardrobe. As usual I am more drawn to things that are probably a bit too dressy for my mostly very casual lifestyle.

#1 - #2: K/R chevron knit skirt? I like this so unless you tell me it must go back I will keep it :-). I wonder if the reason I feel this outfit is more dressy is because of the clothes being quite fitted? How could I relax / funk up the look of this skirt a bit more?

#3 - #7: K/R Dolman sleeve top? (Please disregard the color of the top with the skirt, it doesn't go). I've had a couple of attempts at dolman tops without much luck so far. The last one I tried Angie pointed out was not fitted enough in the neck and bust area for me. What do you think of this one? And if it's a keep, how would I wear it? Semi-tucked I'm suspecting?

I'm struggling with the more voluminous silhouettes at the moment. I don't find that loose fitting tops suit my body type or maybe I'm just stuck in a style rut? I would be happy enough to stick to what I like (pencil skirt with a fitted top) however I feel it's a bit safe and boring and that I would like a bit more of an updated / relaxed look sometimes. Do you ever feel like ALL the current trends don't suit you?

I like the skirt but can't see the fit of the top because of the jacket over it. but new trends sometimes take a bit of getting used to. Dolman sleeves can be tricky to wear.

I like the chevron skirt a lot, especially with the top semi-tucked (pic #3). You said your style is casual, would you get a lot of wear out of it?

I like the skirt a lot. I wonder if the top would be better a size up? I think it is meant to be looser through the bust/armpit.

I am with you in finding this kind of top tough.

I like the skirt but am not sold on the top, I think (but am no expert) a dolman sleeve needs to be looser and drape a lot. I really like the top you have styled in 1-2 with the skirt.

I like the skirt too.

Most of the dolman sleeve tops I have are banded at the bottom. So you can have the fullness at the arm/bust but then it tapers more at the waist. I find that to be more flattering than this one appears to be.

Lovely skirt, and the color of the top is great - I think it is the shape of the top (the lack of a band at the bottom as Susie mentioned, combined with the length) that may be the problem with it working well. I'd probably look for another option in cobalt for the top.
