I ordered this inexpensive, lightweight tee shirt dress. My first thought when I took it out of the shipping box was that it is a couple inches shorter than I’d expected. I love the color, and it’s super comfortable. It could be great for casual warm days at work or travel. I was set to keep it, and then hubby said it’s not flattering on my hips. (How to instantly destroy my confidence!) So I had him take pictures and now I can’t decide. If it were a bit longer, it would balance out my pear figure better.

By the way, I’m wearing my BP mules, purchased a few months ago, which have become my summer go-to shoes!

I tried on the same dress in a different color in store, since I spotted it while making a return, and I’m always keen to try a casual dress. I didn’t love it on me — it “fit” but I didn’t find it particularly flattering.

So I certainly understand the appeal — nice color, casual, breezy — but somehow it’s underwhelming on. I thought maybe a V neck would have improved it. Something about that knotted front detail seems to drag the eye down. I can’t say it’s my favorite on me or you. I hate to be a bummer!

I have to agree with Janet that something is just a bit off with the dress - the knot in front or the neckline.

I like it on you quite a bit. For a knit dress, it skims yet doesn’t cling, and the length seems pretty good for the whole proportional look. The back view is very nice and I don’t see “unflattering.”

The color is great. It seems like it would be great for accessories such as cute Moto style topper, or a lacy cardigan, even tights, boots and a wooly blazer. Maybe the best part is it’s sleeveless and the armholes look very much the right size and coverage.

Thank you, JANET! You’re not “being a bummer” at all. Your response to the dress, on you and on me, is extremely helpful. Yes, I think the knotted front does drag the eye down, as you noted, and that is why my kind and supportive hubby said the dress isn’t flattering.

I would agree that it's not the most flattering look on you. You'll have to weigh the pros against traditional figure flattery in making your decision.

Overall it fits well and is a great color. And the length is flattering, I agree that the front knot detail is not well placed. Take note of the fabrication and look for a similar shape with maybe a side ruching detail.

Windchime, I think that a longer hem length would temper the "midsection and hips sensitivity" you're feeling. At this shorter length, the front knot detailing looks too low on the torso. Proportions look off. Pass.

You have a gorgeous figure, and I LOVE your white loafers. Spider Sam is coming over to steal them.

CJH, yes, it had enough going for it that it wasn’t immediately obvious to me that it wasn’t a good choice.

ANGIE—yes, a couple extra inches length would make a difference, wouldn’t they? And you’re very welcome to borrow my white mules, but they would be too big for Spider Sam to carry home.
