K/R Camel coat

I live in Chicago, so I like to have several winter coats. I wear a lot of brown, so I like to have one in brown or grey. The one I currently have is the chocolate brown coat pictured. I have never loved it--the zipper is what bothers me. I would like to replace it (though truth be told it doesn't really need to be replaced). I ordered this one below from Lands' End Canvas on a whim. The price and quality are great, and it is hard for me to find coats that fit me well, but I think it might be (1) not my best color and (2) a little stodgy? What do you think? Thanks.

Your old coat DOES need to be replaced if you don't feel fab in it! Reason enough!

I like your new coat! Not at all stodgy; the buttons add pizzaz! I can't judge color though, so I'll leave that to the experts.....It looks good to me!

Stephanie, it's a nice coat but to me it's missing that unique something that makes it you. Your finds always have some little extra special detail or flourish or cut that this just doesn't. It technically meets the standards, but do you feel that you're dying to wear it every day? Not sure that needs to be the case with a winter coat; however, since you have one that you have a quibble with, I'd hold out for perfect unless you adore this one.

It look like a lovely coat that fits you well. Since you're in Chicago, can you button it all the way up so it's closed around the neck? I always look for that in coats because I don't want the cold wind rushing down my jacket front.

I think it fills the need, but doesn't WOW you. I think you have to decide whether you need your coat to have wow factor, or if having a perfectly fine coat is perfectly fine lol.

Hi Stephanie,

I agree with Una, something about it the new coat doesn't quite fit - it seems a little ordinary for you. The contrast between the camel color and your hair is nice, but I wonder if maybe the camel shade needs to be a little bit cooler?

Have you thought about trying something more like this?

Not sure if they still have it in your size, but the asymmetrical collar could give it a little more interest.

I am not a fan of this color on you, you look much better in the old brown one. I don't mind the style and the fit looks good on you but it does look like a basic coat. Which can be perfectly fine

I like it. But I am a huge fan of a classic coat. I'm also on the look out for fun brooches, scarves and hats to wear them with. And I think the new coat has a bit of a dressier vibe and therefore compliments the one you have.
Also, in Chicago, I don't think it's possible to have too many winter coats .

I really like the style of the coat! It's bordering retro, which is a fun design aesthetic.
