K/R BR shorts and Madewell linen tee

I'll reserve comment until I hear feedback. These shorts arrived a while ago but I'm only now getting a chance to truly evaluate them. They come with a self belt but I'd never use it -- I would use a leather belt instead.

I love these linen tees from Madewell. The teal is a keeper, I'm pretty sure, but I'm not sure about the red. I am attracted to the color and I think it's a nice change of pace, but is the color good on me, or is it too warm? Pics with absolutely no makeup so you've been warned!

I like the shorts on you. Nice length and great fit IMO.

That teal top makes your beautiful eyes even more beautiful! A definite keep! The red top cannot compete with the teal but I like that color too for you FWIW!

Tops: I think keep both, especially if you love the material. The teal is a slam-dunk (gorgeous with your eyes). The red works, I think. It's especially pretty in the lighting of the second photo. Beautiful drape and great neckline.

Shorts: I'm a keep for these too. They have a nice open leg, which I like. It gives some fluidity which is both flattering and great for a cooler feeling on hot days, and the print looks fun (is it leopard? hard to tell) -- great with colorful tees. I know you are in a very hot climate so you can't be totally covered up during the hottest days. They're short but not too short. These seem a good choice to me.

Love the fit of the tee's Janet. Slight preference for the teal, but I do like the red as well, and it's a great summer happy colour. Can you link to the tees? I'm still after 1-2 linen ones... (said very quietly)

Shorts - I feel the same way about them on you as I do on me. I like them, and the fabric will be great i think, but would like them more if they were an inch or two longer. Tough call. I will probably post a K/R on mine as well, maybe seeing them on someone else will help???

Elizabeth, we cross posted. There is a little hem allowance in the shorts -- I wonder if it would be worth trying to eek another inch out of them?

The tee is lovely on you. I like both colours but if you are hesitating about the red, leave it -- I seem to remember you don't often wear red tops even when you have them. So go for the teal.

I like the shorts a lot. Might be worth playing to see if you can eke an inch from them. I think you need casual but attractive shorts for the heat of your summer. These fit the bill.

Eds, I can see that too. I notice it a bit in the teal in my photo, not so much the red. I've noticed it with a lot of linen tees. In some light it seems more apparent than in others. I don't think they're sheer enough to bother me.

I think both the tops are lovely on you the shorts are a tad bit short to my eye. Have you done the sit down test? Are you feeling comfortable in them?

What Suz said :-). But if the tee is going to cost to return and you got it on sale, I realize it may not feel worthwhile to return it. I have a similar color tee and I do wear it from time to time when it feels right to be bold in color. I like mine with white shorts.

Well, you look beautiful in everything! Love the teal tee. I really like the red, but I think you did a post awhile back about not wearing much red lately? Great shape to the tees. On the fence about the shorts. They look cool and comfy, but there's a tiny bit of bunching in the rise area that would drive me nuts on myself. Maybe the rise is a tad high for you? Not sure. Could just be the selfie "pose". I see it on myself sometimes in selfies, but it doesn't seem to be there IRL.

My first reaction, without reading what you wrote, was Oh I love the red! So I do think it looks good on you.

Two questions about the Ts, cause I'm still looking. Are they sheer? I've tried linen Ts from two places lately that are so thin you can see bra through them.

And second...does the neckline stay put? I'm sick of wide necklines that slide around and show bra straps all the time. (Wow, I'm having bra issues aren't I?!) And what I don't get is that I am very IT. If a neckline is too wide for my shoulders, who in the world is it okay for??

Peri, I feel like the teal version is a little bit sheer -- I think I'm OK with the degree of see-through-ness (I'll experiment with whether a dark or nude bra seems to mitigate the issue), but I'll report more later. The red one, strangely enough, does not feel sheer. I tried on the black and white version, which didn't seem sheer either, and I liked it, but I would have preferred it more if the stripes on the pocket matched up with the stripes on the body, rather than perpendicular. Nitpicky, I know, but I have had my eye on a possible black and white stripe tee at Nordstrom (it would be a duplicate of a favorite mint stripe Splendid tee I have) -- I've included it from my Finds. Mine fits looser than the model photo.

But anyway, long response to the sheer question. I think my short answer would be, it seems to vary from one color to the next. You may have to try a couple to see how they look.

I have trouble with wide/deep necklines showing my bra too, and I always attributed it to my short torso! I simply measure short from shoulder to bust, so many necklines are too deep on me. It's an easy fix if it's a sleeveless top -- just take up the shoulders -- but not so easy in a sleeved garment.

Thankfully, these tees are not cut too low or wide at all -- they seem to stay in place well. I think it helps that there's not a deep back -- deep cut back necklines often cause me trouble, even though I think they can look nice.
