K/R BR or JCP Blackwatch Blazer

I purchased a Blackwatch plaid blazer from JCP a while back and held on to it while I tried out some others and decided whether to keep or return. The only other one I liked was this Blackwatch plaid from BR - it has a cute peplum in the back, but looking at the photos, does't it make my butt look big? The BR is a one-button style, which I like. I probably should alter the BR if I keep it, as it is a little big in the boobies and long in the sleeves - trouble is, I hate to do those alterations. I tried the BR in the smaller size and it's snug in the shoulders and one brownie away from not being able to button.

The JCP is wool, which could be a negative as the school I teach in is as warm as a sauna. It also has two buttons. On the other hand, no peplum, so my butt appears smaller. It also doesn't need alterations, except maybe to shorten the sleeve.

Over to you for your expert opinions - is one worth keeping? If I keep the BR, should I alter it?

The BR one does not appear too big in the photos, and neither does your butt. Those sleeves are the length I prefer on jackets.

The peplum makes it a bit more "fashion-y" than the JCP one, which is a nice juxtaposition with the traditional nature of black watch plaid.

I don't think there is any problem with the peplum! The JCP looks too boxy and short to me, but I'd like to hear from more eagle-eyed YLF'ers. I think you could also wear a longer jacket if it were kind of longer and slimmer.

The problem is that if the BR still needs alterations, is that worth it to you, or is neither one "the one".

I am a newbie, but I like the peplum one better. Re: needing alterations, I am not sure. Do you have a tailor to consult?

Buahaha! Never thought I'd hear you ask if you butt looks big!

The peplum one has sharper styling, I think, and, rather than making your butt look big, it makes you waist look slender and gives a feminine shape.

I don't see a sizing issue in the photo.

I prefer the one button on the BR. It looks more modern.

BR all the way! I think the shape and length and cut are so much better and more flattering. The size looks good to me, as does the sleeve length.

By the way, my husband told me that men's jacket sleeves are supposed to hit right around where your thumb meets your hand (halfway down the palm)... which is where I have been liking them all along when everyone else tells me my sleeves are too long. So there. =P

BR actually makes you look smaller overall, peplum and all. The styling is sharper and the BR jacket looks better overall.

I made a point of looking at the pictures first so I wouldn't be influenced by origin. In terms of pure eye candy it's #1 all the way. I don't know what you are looking for, but it reads as more delicate to me in terms of cut and fabric. Love the one button closure and peplum. And pshaw to any thoughts of a prodigious posterior

no contest. BR has more life to it. I think the sleeve length is fine and I just read another take on this (beyond the one I read on a menswear forum that said that the recommended sleeve length is for men and women have a whole other aesthetic owing to freedom to style how they want) : should hit the wristbone *when the arm is bent at the elbow*. We're never taught to look it like that but in fact it's what I do with my arms before I decide on a sleeve length.

#1 wins by a landslide! And April, you said my favorite word, "juxtaposition." I never thought of the peplum as a fashionable element that off-sets the traditional style of the blackwatch.

And Tenia, welcome newbieI I am my own tailor. I once took a few things to a tailor when my sewing machine wasn't working, and he ruined them. Never again!

Altering a lined blazer is a real bother, so maybe I won't. After a wear or two I'll know if I need to.

My opinion on sleeves is that they should be comfortable and not overwhelm the wearer. I prefer them shorter, but it's a personal call.

And I love the BR jacket on you. Your bottom (and waist) look adorable!

Karie number one is much better. The peplum sticks out farther than your butt, making it actually appear smaller.
