K/R Boden Smyth cord blazer ETA Result in comments

Between it being on backorder then getting stuck in customs a long time, I’ve waited almost a month for this blazer to arrive!

I think I like it, and it will work with my new berry capsule, but I was tired then I tried it on and need a gut check on how it looks and fits. Corduroy is stiff and I’m not used to wearing it on top. Adding toppers has been a goal of mine this season. This is definitely one way I’d wear it, though (obviously with shoes, maybe even the red chucks).

ETA - didn't mean to imply that it's uncomfortable on me - it's not at all! The stiffness just made it harder to asses it on me since I'm not used to it.

I love it for you. The fit looks good as far as I can tell. Does it feel like it will ease in stiffness as you wear it? Make sure you feel comfortable enough in it.

Thanks, all! I think corduroy generally softens. It's not at all uncomfortable! The stiffness of the fabric just made it a tad more challenging for me to assess the fit since I'm not used to that. It stands out from my body a bit more and I am used to things that drape against it, if that makes sense. I am not worried about that deterring me from wearing it.

I will double check that I can move my arms well in it, but from my quick try on, it didn't seem to be too tight (my arms are often the fit challenge for blazers).

I think it looks really pretty on you, Christina, and the shoulders seem to fit well. I vote keep, as long as you can live with the stiffness of the fabric.

The colour is beautiful on you! The fit also looks good from what I can assess. I would just pause re the stiffness and consider if you will enjoy wearing it...

I love the color and it looks great on you. Is this the wide-wale corduroy? I bought a wide-wale one in a dusty rose last spring. It took me a while to get used to it--I haven't worn corduroy in decades. I'm a bit between sizes in Boden, but I'm getting used to it. I like wearing it this fall.

Thanks everyone! It seems comfortable enough. Physical comfort wasn't my concern, anyway - the stiffness just affected how I assessed things. i think if I'm moved to wear it in the next week or so, that will be the deciding factor.

After reading your post I was prepared to support you in returning the jacket if you didn’t absolutely love it - then I opened up the pic. Oh! My! Christina, this looks wonderful on you! The colour loves your dark hair and fair skin. The shoulders and arm length look like a perfect fit. The length and where the waist nips in looks perfect. Does it button closed? Does it pass the ‘hug’ test?

I like it as styled, but when you have the energy and feel up to it, please do a style lab! Does it work with the JCrew liberty two piece items, or the floral on black cropped pants? What about the medium floral on dark blouse from earlier this summer? Any black and white combination or navy would work as well.

runcarla - I'd love to do a style lab! I'm traveling this weekend so it may not be for a bit, though. It actually does button closed, which not all my blazers do. I need to move my arms around in it a bit more but it wasn't tight on my arms, which was a good sign. However, I plan to wear this jumpsuit tomorrow, for an event, and was kind of wondering if the two items would go together at all, so I may try that combo sooner.

HA, Lisa, it's actually "Smyth." I guess I also had the Smythe brand in the back of my mind. Smythe and Boden probably don't have too much incentive to do a collaboration...

I was doing try ons today with a pair of flares and tried them with a wine coloured velvet jacket from last year. Loved the look!

Looks fabulous! KILLER colour, and fun with the stripe.

Personally, I think it can be nice to wear stiff fabric - from time to time. In blazers and jeans especially. Makes them more crisp. If you wear them with a soft layer, it's comfortable.

My jumpsuit has a seam issue though, and needs to be mended so I couldn't wear it today and didn't try the two together.

I hope its a keep, it is beautiful on you. I did think Boden were cheeky to call a blazer a Smyth - as it does seem a bit too close to the Smythe brand. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful blazer.
