K/R: Blue plaid punk pants from ASOS

These are the Tripp pants Natalie tried in red. I feel like they fit me very differently, probably because of my sad lack of hips... What do we think? They are about 6 inches too long but that can be fixed. (I folded them under here.) I actually ordered the yellow too but need to size down, and I kind of like the yellow better - it seems a little more grown-up, but maybe not.

Everything else from ASOS was a total bust, which is okay with me.

Una, these are not working for me. While the fit looks great, its the color. I would love these in the yellow or the red but for some reason blue and plaid do not connect for me.. it kind of says pajama pants

Also, looking from a distance, the plaid kind of fades a bit, its not as distinctive. And of course this is just my opinion and I am prepared to be shot down in flames

I would love to see the yellow on you, I think the color is more edgy and more Una.

They yell "pajamas" to me too. Maybe I'm just not used to the look yet.

Deborah and Brenda, I *think* the light is making the blue less rich than it is (read pjs). My initial thought was pj's too, but the top is making them look pj-esque too - which is why I asked the all important styling question.

Angie, one size up (which I got in yellow) is really baggy on me - like a two inch gap in the waist and extra fabric bunching at the front. I can post a pic in the yellow for you to see. These don't feel tight but do they look too tight?

In theory, I would wear them with these sweaters (I have two) and black or grey blazers and my ponte moto jacket. Or are those bad ideas?

Una, they look a little snug on the waist. Perhaps they will stretch? The UWP pullover isn't great with these pants. I think that's what is throwing people off - too pj-espque.

Agree they do have a pajama look in blue - the blue isn't as bright as I'd like, but as Rae pointed out, in another thread, faded is more authentically RATE... Here's the link to the yellow:

Una, I think you may need to restyle the pants in order to take away the pj-association.

Good idea, I'll try again in the morning (I'm now in my real PJs!)... I am happy to exchange or return and I'm not sure the blue is the right color. The picture on the website is deceiving!

I'm thinking if I saw a black leather jacket and UWP boots with the pants, my impression would be very far away from pjs.

Thanks, Una. I'm not sure whether the fit is good enough to warrant an uncovered crotch area. I do bat for Team Front, so take my opinion for what it is worth to you. It makes little difference to me what the back looks like when the front isn't dead right - unless it's covered.

But lets give it a last chance!

Ooh, just the words "uncovered crotch area" make me cringe, let alone the thought of something wrong in that part of the world... I'll post some new photos in the morning before sending the whole mess of items back! Thank YOU - I wouldn't be asking if I didn't want to know!

I have reservations about the fit, too. Even throwing out my aversion to bright plaids, I wonder if the pattern makes them look more snug than they really are? Hrm. Very curious to see the alternate styling options.

Looking at the picture of the model I am struck by how very ( and I stress very) thin she is. I like the yellow too but I think the reason plaid is generally left to skirts, is because of the way the pattern has to stretch and "move" in order to account for curves (curves are a good thing BTW). To me it looks as though there is a horizontal line that stretches across your hips that looks kinda like it's saying "i am this wide right here". You are not at all wide there, I'm just saying the pants draw the eye there. I believe you can pull off this look, I like the yellow better as well, but you will have to know how to style them in order to let them shine! WIth Angie's help I'm sure you'll come to a successful conclusion:)

Una, I am still waiting for the yellow pair. I am VERY curious about the fit - which is why I ordered them too. Of course, the yellow check, like you, launched me into orbit. *However*, I had my reservations right from the start. As amazing as the yellow check is, AND how I love to relive the rocking style of the '80s - I think the fit of these trousers is what will make them too young and age-inappropriate for me. They just shouldn't be so tight all over. I love a fun and bright element to my style, but I do strive to look sophisticated and somewhat ladylike at the same time. I fear these pants are not it.

I'll keep you posted, Una. And you owe us another fit and styling round

Hmmmm...The big, bold, high-contrast plaid is hard to wear in pants, IMO, for the reasons that Tina mentions. I think I would generally like to see them worn more loosely, probably somewhere exactly in between the two sizes you ordered :). I didn't think of pjs when I saw them, so I guess that's a good thing.

They don't scream pajamas to me either but I had a pair of blue plaid pants I got rid of because I couldn't get rid of the pajama association :/ I'm not a good judge of fit, but where the pattern meets at the crotch is not the most flattering, I'm afraid.

I do like the yellow pair and would love to see them on you! The way the model wears it, the fit seems to be a bit looser all around -- to go with the slouchy nature of the look.

Tina, I agree the model is SUPERSKINNY - for these to fit the way they do on her, her legs must be toothpicks, and the pants are hanging off her hipbones. Not fair!

Oh AG, I can see why you love the trousers but think you will find a better option. In the meantime I will continue to practice saying Blue Plaid Punk Pants until I am able to finish the line without a stutter.
