K/R black sheath - YouLookFab Forum

My recent dress capsule review left me feeling a need for a LBD that I could dress up or down. I found this sheath for a very nice price at the rack online.

I couldn't quite get it to show in the pictures, but with my regular unders there's a bit of a crease along the belly. I could pull out the big guns when I wear this, but then is it no longer the throw, top and run dress I wanted?

I've also been considering maybe I'd be happier with a drapier, woven dress. Less classic, more cocoon shaped. I feel like I'll be asked if I'm headed into the office in this dress. Although, I do quite like it in the officey look with the pink blazer.

It was inexpensive enough that it doesn't have to be a full on work horse to keep it. It could be the dress I pull out a few times a year when I need something classic, instead of the dress that I can wear with sneakers and hoody or blazer and heels.

I love it with the pale pink blazer. I think I'd like the rose hoodie better with diff shoes, but I'm not sure.

On 2nd thought, too structured for me with the hoodie, regardless of shoes.
Maybe keep looking.

It looks great, but I cannot see the fit issue you are referring to. Are you certain this goes away with different underpinnings? I would be inclined to keep looking. It sounds like you wouldn't want to reach for this dress and would pick others in favor of it when the circumstances arose.

I think it's a lovely dress, but it does strike me as a bit officy. At least, it's not a style that I'd just grab and pull on for whatever. I say keep if you DO need for the office or something classic, but keep looking for that easy black dress. They are out there... I know because I have too many

Jen, I'm the world's worst about not wanting to change my shoes when I try on clothes. I have to really stretch myself to not just take all my picures barefoot. I know it makes it much harder to process the styling though. I'll try harder.

Staysfit, I think my belly will still be there, regardless of the unders, but what I can't stand more than my belly is a demarcation where my unders cut into my soft belly. I could fix that with higher rise unders. With toppers all of that becomes even less of an issue, but I know it's the spot my eye goes to first when I look at myself, so I know if there's a line there when I throw it on with my normal underpinnings I'll be less likely to throw it on and run out the door.

Elizabeth, you're right that it is very office like and you give me hope that there are easier dresses out there. I'm not sure if the problem is THIS dress, or simply that I don't actually want what I thought I wanted in my black dress, kwim?

Aw, no worries!!! You are a mile ahead of me by simply trying it on with the variety here! I have a horrible habit of just assuming stuff will work.

It looks very nice on you, but it is hard to tell from the pics about the midriff creasing concern. If the dress is going to require special underpinnings to make you feel fab in it, then you may be better off to continue your search for just the right "throw, top & run" garment.

It does look good on you but IMHO skews dressy/office-appropriate, although I can't tell the fabrication.

I have always regretted buying anything that is a smidge too tight that depends on shape wear. I *might* suck it up, so to speak, for a special occasion but I would never pull the item out of my closet for casual wear if it was uncomfortable. That's just me.

What about holding that easy black dress space open for a while longer? Maybe you don't have to decide right now what the issues with this dress are, or exactly what you want from a black dress. There will always be more black dresses; you don't have to settle for this one!

I love it with the cardi --LOVE! And think it's dressed down enough for errand-running.
For the hoodie look, I think it might need a dressier hoodie if that makes sense.
The blazer looks work well.

I'm not a fan of this hoodie with it. As far as the line maybe you could go up a size, and then have it taken in?

If you want a comfy dress and this isn't it, the question becomes, even if you were going to have 2 dresses, is this the one you want for your second dress?

I think the dress looks very nice on you. I especialy like it with the pink blazer and cardi. I don't really care for it with the hoodie. I have looked, but cannot see the crease you mentioned, but it sounds like it's something that would bother you. If so, maybe you want to keep looking?

I know what you mean about changing the shoes for try-ons. I struggle with it, too!

I looked at your pics before reading your post, and from the pics, I thought this dress was for work--which I see is your concern. I would personally keep looking for a more casual option. If an occasion comes up where you need something more classic, I think that there are so many officey black dresses out there that it would not be too difficult to find one if you don't keep this one. My goal is not to settle for something unless I have a definite need for the item in the near future (like I have an event coming up), and time is getting short. I try not to settle for something if I have no time frame for when I need it.

I really like this dress, both officey and as a throw on, but the line thing would bug me. Don't know if different undies would help. Some fabrics really cling. It would maybe take a full slip - and not a shapewear one...
