K/R : Banana Republic - how does it fit

Apologies upfront for post and run, it is saturday morning here and I have to go out and run some errands.
I have ordered bunch of staff from BR in one and two sizes down. Package just arrived and I quickly tried it on. Ignore my bed head and no makeup.
Have I get the sizing right?
1. White skinny ankle jeans - one size down
2. Avery fit pants - two sizes down
3./4.Ryan fit pants - two sizes down
5./6./ 7.Camo blazer - two sizes down
8. Grey embellished dress - one size down
9. Black sheath dress - one size down

All 3 pairs of pants still have my usual issue of gaping at the back. I will share my feelings and opinions later, but would really like to hear from you.

PS I also had a haircut and new place for taking pictures.

I am of little help to you because I think I wear my clothing a size too large. I can't help but wonder what Angie would say if she met me in person.

Those white jeans look fabulous on you. I think the Avery fit you better than the Ryan. I love both those dresses on you, especially the black.

On a side note, I agree with Angie and the Forum. We have to dress the body we have. You are wise to buy a few extra pieces to create mini-capsules.

Anchie these are so much better! Something not quite right with the Avery fit, it wrinkles? Ryan fit is better. I especially like the blazer. Both dresses fit well. And your new haircut is great.

Jenni -- I am a very poor estimator of "fits." I will defer to the greater wisdom of the Forum. My thoughts are always about comfort and mobility.

Get the grey dress! It looks amazing on you!

And truly, it all looks great. How do the various items feel?

Jeans look great.

I'm having trouble judging the fits of the two pants because, uh, navy and black are so hard to judge -- it seems the Averys fit you like slim cigarette pants, more or less, or almost like skinnies except a slightly looser calf? And Ryans look as if they might be loose in waist/back (though wearing a belt would help), more snug in the thigh, and looser in calf?

Blazer -- are the shoulders sitting where they should? Can you comfortably reach, etc.? Do you feel you have extra fabric at the back that needs tailoring? It could be the overall cut is not quite right. From a visual perspective from the front, it looks lovely on you. For my own taste I might want to bring the sleeves up a bit but i like my sleeves a bit shorter than some.

Black sheath also looks great!

How did you decide to go down one or two sizes? Just look at the size charts?

SO MUCH BETTER. The Avery fit is dead right. A slight waistband adjustment is an easy fix.

LOVE THE DRESS IN #9. Very elegant. Nicer than #8.

Yes, the dress in #9 is perfect! I like it better than #8.Everything looks great although I'm not sure about the blazer. You don't look totally happy with it.

Love both dresses but especially the gray. I prefer the fit of the Avery pants on you. How do they feel when you sit?

These are sized down? They all look perfect--I can't imagine what you were wearing before. I can't see the jacket well enough to judge, but everything else looks jut right on you.

Is the waistline seam on the gray dress at the right place for you? They rarely are for me, and if they're not then I "feel" that seam all day, so I thought I'd ask.

Gaping waistbands on jeans are so common I don't even consider it an issue anymore. I have a system for K/R: if I can fit one fist inside the waistband (and I have very large hands), I keep the pants and have them altered. Two fists and I send them back.

Aside from the fit, these just look like good items for you. You HAVE to buy that gray dress!

Oh Anchie, sorry about my comment earlier--I just remembered your clothes are sized down because your *body* is sized down! Shouldn't post before coffee, I guess.

Sizes look good. Except the grey dress, that looks a bit short to me, I mean short in the torso+above knee length=looks like it was made for a shorter person.
Don't forget to check that white jeans fabric is substantial, not see-through.

I love the black dress on you. Reminds me of Roland Mouret's famous galaxy dress.

Black dress looks terrific, grey dress looks like it's missing a matching jacket ?, pants fit well (that gaping is pretty common ) and the blazer looks good across the shoulders and the front. Easy alteration to have it taken in through the back waist area as you are showing . Your hair looks great!!

Your hair is gorgeous! Fit wise, the black sheath and suit jacket look great to me. And the pants - but it is hard for me to tell the difference between the two cuts.

Love your hair and the silver pumps. I'll leave the fit question to others as I tend to wear things a bit too large, although I am craving some better tailored clothing.

Thank you all for your kind replies, it helps so much. I was out all day yesterday and did not have time to properly try things on, but will try to play in my closet today to try different combinations, especially with the things that I am on the fence.
Here are my first impression.
White jeans - I really like those, they are made from substantial, slightly stiff denim fabric without lot of strech. Not see through at all. Nice fit everywhere except the waist, so belt is needed. They even feel too thick and warm for summer heat. I don't have good fitting jeans at the moment, so I immediately took the tags off and wore them yesterday. They kept their shape, did not strech at all, I am very happy with them. I usually wear white jeans only in summer, but this pair I may try in winter too.
Avery pants - that was nice surprise, very nice and comfortable fit. They are made of some kind of denim fabric that still look appropriate for work. They are cropped, so not sure how I would feel about them in the winter and what footwear I would pair with them. But I am definitely keeping them, because I really need some better fitting pants urgently. Will consider this model in the future.
Ryan pants in lightweight wool - they are my go to work pants and I have many pairs in different colors. Unfortunately all of them two sizes too big. I did not really realize how awful they fit until I tried this new pair. Must keep.
Gray dress - I am on the fence about this one. And your responses are also very mixed, so not sure what to do about it just yet. Need to try it on some more to decide. It is fun, cute dress that I like very much in theory. But it is too short for work. Fit around the waist is not the best. Not even sure that I have the life or occasion to wear it. My life outside the office is very casual. Can it be worn casually? Fabric is not dressy at all, it is similar fabric like in sweatpants, but it is lined and not clingy.
Camo blazer - you can tell from my fice that I am not happy. Weird fit. Good fit in shoulders, sleeves almost too tight, and then huge around the waist, does not feel tailored at all. Not sure that it is worth tailoring. Have to think some more about it.
Black dress - that was huge disappointment. You also all liked it so I feel even more disappointed. I like the fit a lot. Nice length which is not esay to find. But the fabric! I hate the feel of it. It is cheap plasticy material that is making crinkly sound when moving. It also looks like it will wrinkle easily and be a lint magnet.

The grey dress looks casual to me - because it's made out of sweatshirt material - I can see it better with white flats than pumps.
Too bad about the black dress
Camo blazer doesn't look weird to me, but obviously it's not what you're after : keep looking for a sharper blazer that defines your waist better. Also, camo makes the blazer casual, not so good for office wear.

skylurker, it seems that we are on the same page regarding the grey dress. This is how i tried to style it few minutes ago
I am warming to camo blazer. Even though it has some fit issues, it is better then any other blazer currently in my wardrobe.
I am getting increasingly frustrated, I tried combining new things with the old, but nothing seems to work.

The fit of all the pants looks fab to me.
You are right about the black dress, although it fits you beautifully who wants a dress in a nasty fabric that makes noise when you walk.

Thanks Joyce, I have already taken off tags from all the pants and decided againt the black dress. Still have to make decision on blazer and gray dress.

Great styling with regard to the grey dress. I did not love it it the first set of pics, but it is really cute with the white flats and denim jacket.

I had the same fit issues when I tried the camo jacket--cute item, though.

I think the grey dress is a keeper. Too bad about the black dress, but you made the right decisión. You will find other dresses that fit great and are made of better material.

Dianna - I hope I will find another good fitting dress, I tried many dresses this summer, but all had fit issues.

Waist on both dress is hitting me little bit higher then my natural waist, and that is my common issue with dresses. Does it make me a long waisted? I am never able to tell.

Good styling of the grey dress, but I can't say I like it (for reasons I stated above) + it's a summer dress : will you wear it now? I ask because it's already Fall here.

Waistband seams are always too high for me and I'm long-waisted, so I'd say yes, you're long-waisted. When I looked at the picture of you in that gray dress I could just feel that seam rubbing on my bottom rib...

But you really do look beautiful in it, and you need a winter dress in just that color, worn with those shoes.

Laura G - thank you. I think you could be right that I am long waisted. My husband usually comments on dresses that they look like maternity dresses on me because waist is too high.
