K/R Ann Taylor tops

So, the four (yes, I know, but for $12, i wanted a few new colors) camis I got are all staying. I need camis, and I love the Ann Taylor ones.

These two tops also came with the camis, and I feel like they look much worse in photos than in person. I have no idea why. Even DH commented "wow, they don't look that bad in person". He wasn't in love with either (no low neckline, which he prefers), but he liked the first one better.

So, makes me wonder if either has earned a place in my closet.

If we were going by these photos, I'd say they're not as fab as so many tops you have already. The fit looks off in the shoulders and body for you. But what do you think is the difference in person? Maybe we're not seeing it all.

I'm with Una. They look like a pass to me if I'm just looking at the photos, but there must be more to it than that since you notice such a striking difference. To me, neither shows off your gorgeous little waist. What is it that the photos aren't showing or are showing that isn't there? (Photos lie sometimes!)

I thought they were more figure flattering, but then mirrors lie. I am a thinking patterns on top are less than ideal for me. Just the opposite of what I always thought!

patterns seem to help smooth things out, and I don't want my waist smoothed so to speak.

patterns on the bottom seem to be a bit kinder than I had ever dreamed as they do the smoothing thing.

Interesting! I quite like #1, but am not sure if it is different enough from others that you have to make it worthwhile, and if it isn't feeling great, then no reason to keep...unless you have a wardrobe hole, that is.

I think the sleeves on #2 are too long and that distracts the eye, plus it looks a bit snug across the bust. So I would pass on that one.

If they are to be worn with a jacket over top, don't forget that your waist will get some highlighting via the jacket. So if the patterns are pleasing and you feel comfortable and the price was right, then maybe they're more worth keeping.

Hmmmm, I like the colours on you but I agree with DH, I have seen more flattering necklines on you and unless you have nothing else like these I don't think they're fab enough for you.

Hehe, DH like shorter skirts and lower necklines. :). But, I think I agree with him on this one. A little lower neckline would make a huge difference.

swimming against the tide here but I really like 1 for you. I think it might look amazing with your new jeans and I would try that before returning.

How do they look with pendant style necklaces to give you the illusion of a lower neckline? Would it break things up a bit?
Love the colours, but I think the tops need "something else" - accessories, layering etc. Play and see??

In general, I like boat-ish necklines when worn alone. When I put a jacket on top of them, they seem to cover up a little too much neckline.

I like the colors of these, and even the patterns, but you have narrow shoulders and I'm not sure if this neckline/shoulder is your best. A top with sharp shoulders or shirring at the crown of the sleeve would be fab on you.

(PS I just placed a Talbots order because of you. They should give you a commission!)

I like #1 as well. I like the colors of #2, but there's something in the pattern or the fit that isn't making you look as awesome as you are.

I've noticed that when I post pictures of clothes with small patterns on them, they always look better IRL than in the pic.
