K/R: Ankle Boots - YouLookFab Forum

I think I know the answer to my questions, but I'm wondering if posting will change my mind. Picture 1 is of two pairs of boots that I tried on in Seattle and left behind, but kept thinking about. Postage was reasonable, so I ordered to try on at home.

I've tried them on with several items that I'd like to wear them with. I didn't pick out anything special to try them on with--these are what I was wearing today and a few variations that were close at hand.

Pictures 2 through 5 are the pair on the left. They are a cooler nubuck, with a slightly higher vamp, hence the zip.

Pictures 6 through 9 are the pair on the right. They are a warmer color in more durable flat leather, with a lower vamp. I thought I would like that better for a dressier look.

I like both with the jeans, but they fall flat for me with the other outfits. I think that my style really requires a more refined heel and an almond toe. What do you think?

These were pricey and need to be real workhorses for me. I'd be returning the Sam Edelman Petty booties in taupe and snake print that I bought at the NAS to justify keeping either of these. My gut says return the snake print boots and both of these, keep the taupe Sam Edelman for wearing with jeans and keep my eyes open for a pair of dressier nude ankle boots.

And I'm always open to other suggestions.

UPDATE: Also looking at the booties in 10, 11 and 12. They feel a little more me and I think they might work better with all of the outfits. These need to go with everything and I'm not convinced that shoe 1 and shoe 2 do.

I like the first pair better. Are they both Dieppa Restero? I've found their shoes, so comfortable.

They are, Anna, and you know exactly which store hooked me with these!

I can see the comfort. I looooove the gorgeous leather. You look at these and they say, "we are lovely and expensive and incredibly comfortable and did we mention lovely?" I just worry that they aren't quite the right shape for me. Definitely to my eye the first pair works better, which was a complete surprise to me.

ooh.. I like the first pair. Would wear with skirts and dresses in a heartbeat!! They fall flat for me with dress trousers, but I think that's because they just need some more zing ... too matchy matchy with the camel slacks.

ETA: not as crazy about the second pair. Reasons: 1) color is not "your" nude (whereas the first pair IS your nude). 2) I am not crazy about the lower vamp. There's something about that.. I dunno how to articulate it. Theoretically it should work to elongate your leg etc... but when I see low vamps like that, something says to me "why not just wear pumps instead? If you are going bootie, it should be taller.... even just a little bit taller... "

Love the first pair. The color is great. Love the shape of the boot. This would be very versatile.

Another vote for the first pair. The second look fine with pants but on their own look like too much shoe at the front.

I really like the first pair the best, but they do seem like the would sort of duplicate the S.E. Petty in putty (I have those as well and returned the snake skin style), although the heel would allow you to wear with dresses as well as slacks, jeans, etc.

Another vote for the first pair. Of the new boots, the first two have covered heels which, to my eye make them dressier. I always trash that type of heel on the first time as I climb down my narrow concrete steps. . .And the shinier stack of the third new pair strikes me as slightly dressier than the more matte stack of the boots you modeled. Just an observation; dunno if it makes any difference to you. All are gorgeous.

I love the first bootie. It looks great with everything. I do think the other boots pictured are more visually interesting though. From what I've seen of your style, they seem more like you.

I actually like them both with pants and think they are both refined looking. I have a slight preference for the first pair though, due to the way this pair looks with a dress. I actually like the higher vamp with the dress better. It looks more intentionally bootie than the other pair which look a little like mules to me.

Another vote for the first pair. Of the last three, I prefer the #11. Although I think the first pair that you already have works just fine.
