K/R: AGL sandals

I fell in love with these sandals in the Nordstrom catalogue, but not sure if they work for me. Ended up bringing them home, but DH thinks the thicker strap and buckle placement make the overall effect too heavy for my foot. I'm not sure what it is, but I agree something's a little off. What say you?

Also pics of a couple of flares I tried. The C/E pair (lighter wash) are a size too small, so I'd have to hunt down my size. Not sure I'll make a foray into full-length flare territory again, I should probably stick to my mission of finding crops.

Sorry about the rushed pics, too: I meant to post these to get advice last night, but was desperately short on time.

ETA: I did bring home the metallic pink cork-sole AGLs you see in the first pic. They are keepers for sure! Both shoes are unbelievably comfy, but this brand is usually a good fit for my foot.

I love those sandals on you! I don't see anything about the buckle placement that gives me pause. They look like they fit your foot very well.

Thanks, Aquamarine! Last night I was all set to return them, today they are growing on me. I think the very bold snake is throwing me a bit, I'd have preferred something a little more subtle. But they are SO comfortable (though DH is still saying they look more like a 'comfort' brand than a fashion brand to him!)

To me, there is always a WEE bit of "comfort brand" danger when you pair the thicker strap with a block heel, so it's probably something we will all encounter this spring/summer -- but it's a styling issue, really.

I happen to really like the sandals a lot. I would wear them myself -- they seem very similar in shape to my silver SE Trinas, which also have a thick strap and low chunky heel so same potential issues. I would vote keep.

Also, can you post a find for those goldy-pink shoes in the background? I'd love to look more closely at them.

And, I think those flares look great on you, but personally I am just more into my crops right now.

Finally: is this a new haircut? Would love a closeup of that too.

The catalog AGL sandals were love at first sight! And, I think I love them even more seeing them on you! KEEP! And, I'll take the cork oxfords as well!

Viva, yes, it is a newish cut: I went short just before Christmas but am long overdue for a trim. I'll post pics next week after my trim.

I'll try to add the shoes as a find after I arrive at work. I've never done that before so there's a learning curve for me

Those sandals are great on you and I don't see them as comfort brand at all. They're great paired with the jeans you have on. I consider them to be super, super stylish.
You look the same as I do in flares, and I think they look better with the shirt untucked. It makes your legs look longer, IMO, but the look is more relaxed, which might be a compromise for you. You could try them with a long tunic too.

Have you tried the sandals without hose? I think they have potential, although the pattern makes them look heavier - not the style.

LOVE the hair, and hope you track down those jeans.

Aliona- I like those sandals. I wonder if part of what is making them seem heavy on your foot is the added bulk of the jeans hem, which creates 2 strong, weighted horizontal lines in close proximity. Perhaps try them with a more streamlined or cropped pair to compare.

You look great and glad the other shoes work.

I'm with Vivian - liking the sandals, and loving the rose gold metallic lace-ups in the background. The flares look really nice on you - you have the legs for them, that's for sure...but I haven't got much of an eye for that style in denim and my thoughts are pretty un and ill-formed

Smittie, I appreciate the tips on flares and feedback on the shoes. Hearing the opinions of younger folk like you and Aquamarine is super helpful in moving me past my preconceived old lady notions on the sandals. The young SA at Nordstrom loved them.

Angie, what a great eye you have! I usually wear hosiery to try on shoes in the store as I worry it's offputting to other customers if one tries on shoes without? I'm assuming there has to be a reason for those pedi things the shoe department offers everyone! And a great point, too, on the pattern adding to the visual weight. It had a lot more "presence" IRL than I expected.

Eliza, you make a wise point about the jeans hem. I was thinking it helped offset some of the attention from the shoe, but there is a lot going on!

Zoie, AviaMariah, Elizabeth, Betty, Diane, and Lisa, thanks for the boost. So far the sandals have fans, so I'm going to try to style them with outfits and see if I warm up to them.

Bottom line is, I like the sandals, but not sure I love them on me at a level equivalent to their price point. The oxfords are another matter. I jumped on team wear right away today! They still feel super comfy after a full day of running around. I recommend them to anyone who is considering them. I also came home with the cropped pink Halogen pants on p. 83 of the catalogue and have a ringing endorsement on them, too.

Thanks, also, for all the hair comments. My stylist will be happy it still looks good after so long without upkeep.

Bit late here but I like the sandals and love the flares on you. The paler ones look like they have a more pronounced flare? Both pairs look good.

Thanks, Brooklyn! Yes, the lighter wash jeans did have a huge flare (about 3" of it was turned under in that photo!). In the end, I felt like that pair was chanelling me circa 1975, leaving me feeling slightly dated. That's silly, I know, because they are perfectly current, but I think I'll feel more modern in crops. I did like the fit and higher waist of the darker wash pair but the jeans themselves were one of those weird combos of fabrics, only about 50% cotton.

I think you look fab! But a lowish cotton content would be a deal breaker for me too for warmer weather.

Love, love the shoes, and I'm glad you're already enjoying them! I also like the sandals a lot, and I think they look classy and current. I also think they bookend your hair somewhat, so they will look good with lots of things. If you don't love them enough for the price, that's a good reason to hold out for something you like better, though. Or at least hold out till triple points days.

You look terrific in the flares, too. Not like you saved them from the 70s.

I am blown away by your hair but will try to focus on the sandals. I have recently 'discovered' AGL with two lucky consignment finds and they are so comfortable it is hard to be objective. My first impression is not comfort brand - I like them a lot. But it is hard for me to judge shoes without the whole outfit. and did I mention your hair is fantastic?
