K/R: a second dress needed - YouLookFab Forum

Thanks for all your help on my recent dress post. I'm happily keeping the red dress that had Angie sobbing, to wear to an evening "business" dress event. As part of the same weekend, I have to attend an afternoon "garden party", which is also "business" dress. I went to Nordstrom's yesterday because I've grown weary of the online/return cycle (I've now returned 10 dresses) and tried on about 9 dresses. The SA came up with this one. It's regular sizing (the petite would be too short for my comfort zone), but I *think* it still fits in the shoulders, which is usually where I have trouble. It's a bit more of a deep
fuchsia than the flash suggests. I'm wearing it with low silver pumps.

Thoughts?

I would also be able to wear this
to a wedding in June.

Gorgeous!! I love it. As far as the shoulders, have you tried hugging yourself or lifting your arms about your head? Those are ways I use to figure out if the shoulders fit.

I like the dress and think that it seems like a good choice, but have two questions. 1) might the color be too close to the red (if you're going to be seeing the same people at both events) 2) It looks like it fits in the shoulders, but what about the sleeve length? Did you try it on in petite, and if so, how did those sleeves fit? I am not an expert, but they look possibly too long for 3/4, but not exactly full length.

Jenny, yes, it's definitely not too tight in the shoulders. I was worried about the opposite, actually, that it's too big.

Marmee, I see what you're seeing. I'm pretty sure the petite will be too short (they didn't carry the petite in the store, so I'd have to order it), as I wouldn't want the dress any shorter than this. We'll see what others have to say about the sleeve length, and I suppose I could look into alterations, as I have plenty of time, and Nordstrom's would do them for free, I imagine, with my card. I'm not worried about the color, as they are different, and the styles of the two dresses are also quite different.

Sarah, that sounds like a good plan. And I forgot to say that I just love the neckline in the back. I think the dress looks beautiful on you, even with the sleeves at the current length.

You are simply a dress magnet. So beautiful , and with sleeves! The sleeves are bracelet length and of course they'll ride up some when you move so i think that is a good proportion.

And knee length is so elegant- just right. i have to pass up 99.5% of dresses as they are all well above the knee on me. I want those pumps, too.

Just wanted to those of you who asked about the pumps: they are Isaac Mizrahi 'Gabriel'. Mine are a silver "basketweave", but this year they are available in a couple of different metallic, as well as patent colors. They choices are slightly different at Nordstroms and Zappos.

That dress is just perfect, and will be perfect for the wedding you are attending later as well. I love the bracelet length sleeves--please don't touch them! Now I'm off to see your first dress, which I missed. Cheers!

As others have suggested, you might want to have the sleeves shortened a bit, but please don't let that stop you from keeping it.
