K/R #2 & #3 Thrifted striped blazer and denim skirt

OK, here are the other 2 items I bought at the 50% off sale at my local thrift store.

1) Old Navy striped blazer. Normally I don't thrift inexpensive brands but the stripes on this blazer spoke to me. : ) Deets: black blazer with cobalt and grey stripes. Paid $3 before tax.

2) Ann Taylor high waisted denim skirt. I like the flattering seam placements on the hips and back. (Excuse the sock lines on my legs.) Added the belt to try to give my waist some definition. I don't think I would wear a top tucked in unless I wore a blazer on top. $6.50 before tax.

Questions:
Blazer sleeves OK? I have a hard time telling if sleeves are bracelet length or just too short. At any rate, I can always keep them scrunched.

Do the stripes look dated or funny?

I'm on the fence about buying skirts that are above my knee. Give it to me straight...is above the knee still OK for a 42 1/2 year old? : )

Do the blazer and skirt look fine together?

I'm not loving the stripes-- doesn't look current to me, but I think it depends on the styling!

The skirt is awesome! It fits you really well, and I think the length is absolutely fine. A few inches above the knee I think is totally fine for most age groups. It's when the hemline starts creeping higher that it becomes a problem. xD

AJ, I think they all look great! The blazer, skirt and leather jacket on your other thread.

Certainly don't worry about the skirt length, it is still very much appropriate and you have *amazing* legs. You can wear this one to death.

I actually love the blazer the best so defo keep it. Even though the current trend is for bright blazers, I think this one is a classic that will look stylish when the current trends begin to look dated. It looks fab with this denim skirt but would also look great with jeans of any colour and pretty much any style of skirt. Plus - it fits like a dream!

AJ what a great day of shopping! I love this jacket too. Looks retro to me and hints at Angie's fashion week cheeky schoolboy look! Would yiunwear it open or done up? It does gather a bit at the back when buttoned. The skirt is sweet and does look nice on you too.

GREAT fits, classic shapes, a fun geometry and a workhorse fabric, and I think all eminently age-appropriate. I think a knee-length (and another inch or two, give or take), especially in such a clean shape, is ageless and classic.

You've obviously had a very successful shopping day! I'd be over the moon in your shoes!

I think the skirt is great on you. I really like the blazer too but it looks just a touch snug. I think it would be find undone though. If you are worried about the sleeve length, you could turn them up one roll to make it clear they are bracelet length.

I think the blazer is fine if you really like it. I guess I just don't love the color combination for myself. I've also seen a lot of horizontal striped blazers on my trip to the "la-di-da" mall. The skirt length is perfect for a woman of your standing in the community. Very appropriate without looking matronly. I gingerly stepped into the "just above knee length" casual skirts last summer and I haven't been struck with lightening....yet. It felt funny though, after having been told all my life that "ladies wear their skirts to cover their knees", lol! Your legs are terrific and there's no reason you can't rock this look for the next decade or so!

Love the skirt and I actually like the blazer as well - I can see it with a white t-shirt underneath with skinnies and a men's tie loosely knottted...

I think the skirt looks great. I'm not wild about the stripe placement on the blazer, but I don't think it looks dated.

I like the blazer...if Angie says the blazer is too small maybe you could just wear it open only if you really love it?

The blazer pulls a tiny bit in back when buttoned, so I would wear it unbuttoned. I'm wondering if the skirt is puffing out a tiny, tiny bit on the sides at the hips? Maybe because it is cut for someone taller? Actually, it looks really good now, but if you are a person who drops pounds when she is sick, I would avoid wearing it immediately after recovery because I think it would hang if you are any slimmer. The length is fine. My vote is to keep both.

That skirt looks like it was made for you! I'm not feeling the blazer, but I think it's just not my cup of tea.
