I did everything wrong with this Spense dress. I got excited because it was on sale online and I'd watched way too much wntw and decided I HAD to have a fit and flare dress. Which I then purchased for my fantasy life where I go out for brunch on sundays instead of doing laundry and cleaning toilets. I waited a year to try it on. At which point my husband said i looked like I belonged on wisteria lane and not in a good way. I think I'm too little to wear all the pleats in the skirt.

As you can see the top is also too big. I can take it to a tailor but trying to decide whether it's worth it to get it fitted. Should I donate this dress so some lucky lady will get a never-worn dress for thrift store price and maybe take it out for brunch???

Keep = yay. Donate = nay.

Oh and can someone tell me how you get such quality photos taking your own picture?

It sounds like you've already answered your question. The dress is very sweet, but if you don't wear it, it is ok to donate it.

The photo question is very interesting. I hope someone answers!

Can you get it made into a skirt?

Hmm, you already own it, so why not experiment before donating: can you let the hem down at all (I'm a fan of slightly longer skirt lengths) and do you have a cropped black jacket to toughen it up and cover most of the bodice (like the moto in today's blog picture), do you have black booties or boots or some tougher footwear?

I guess I'm on a roll with trying to downplay it's sweetness because I DO think the border print of the skirt is darkly interesting enough to handle adding more black.

If it's too much work, or you'd have to buy anything for it, then I'd donate and move on without any guilt! It was a lesson learned

I would just wear a black blazer over it and enjoy it for what it is. I like it!

I also like it as is. Not seeing the fit issues you're referring to. It's sweet, but you can play that down with shoes and a topper.

I sympathise. I have done some wrong shopping lately, too.

I actually think the cut is nice on you. Agree it would be better a touch longer. But I can see it worn with a jacket of some kind. I would try to style it in a way that feels comfortable to you, and if that's impossible donate or consign.

As for photos, I can't do a good job with my iphone, either. I get my daughter to take mine!

Wow! Talk about instant gratification. Thank you for the speedy and kind responses. A jacket and boots are on my shopping list so I think I'll let this hang in my closet a while longer and try it again later when it's styled.

I also love the idea of turning it into a slightly longer skirt. I'm not sure my short little legs can carry it off but maybe I can fake it before I tailor it and find out.

Another suggestion try pinning down the folds/pleats. If you like the line better with them pinned (less volume) you could have a tailor sew them down. It's a very cute dress!
