K/R - Wildcard, Brights, Texture...

I met my sister downtown today after she had a doctor's appointment (she lives out of town). We popped into Zara and saw lots of great stuff. However, I am trying to be very, very mindful about my purchases, so maintained that I wasn't going to buy a thing. Then we hit the second level and this bright orange coat called my name. Well, it followed me home, and in the spirit of being mindful I am posting a K/R. It feels wonderfully oversized, and has a nice nubbly texture. I'm a sucker for orange, but only ever buy coats in black, or grey. Over the past couple of years I've scorned hooded jackets because I find I look too "mom-ish" in them (which isn't a bad thing - but I've been doing the SAHM thing for years).

I'm not sure how it photographs. Wonder if perhaps the length is too frumpy? What do you think about the colour. I had Angie's post ringing in my ear regarding Brights & a Wildcard.

Zara turns over quickly so I thought I'd nab it and contemplate from home. I can't find it on the website, so no Find posted.

I'd really appreciate your honesty. Fashion forward or frumpy mom? I'm only keeping it if it's close to a 10. Otherwise no problems taking it back.

The orange reads tomato red on my screen so it's tough to comment on the colour, except to say this: I own a red wool coat. Before I owned that coat, I owned a red raincoat with a quilted liner. And before I owned that coat, I had another red coat.

Suffice it to say that I find a bright coat an absolute necessity in our grey winters. I lived in Vancouver during the raincoat years -- and wow, did I wear that coat into the ground.

This is a fab casual coat to my eye. Not frumpy, but easy and fun.

I'm not sure it's possible for you to look frumpy, for starters The coat looks fab - keep it! I am seeing two different colours in these pics - but regardless, it's a great cozy-looking yet totally modern coat - and at Zara's prices, it's undoubtedly a good buy. I bet you'll wear it everywhere.

Appreciate the feedback ladies. My BFF saw my photos and doesn't like the front view. So that threw me off a bit. I'm thinking that it will be a bright pick-me-up on our grey miserable days. It's truly a bright dutch orange, which I love as accessories but have never had as a bright coat. Maybe this is my wildcard

Jackie, look at the way you and your dog are posed the same way in photo #5...I love it! Add to that, I think you look great in this bright pop of color for winter. Even though you're being mindful, I'm so glad you nabbed it.

Haha Vicki - good point about the dog! I turned around and walked a couple of steps, and he just followed along as if we were going to head out for a walk - I did, after all, just put on my coat! LOL.

This is fab on you! I usually don't like coats with this type of placket (no buttons), but it has such a modern an clean look on you. Hope you are keeping.

I'll be the spanner.....I don't dislike it but I don't love it either. I think it is the placket and also the texture. I love the colour and I think it will be well worn and comfortable...but in my mind you are a more polished dresser and this coat reads very casual.

Feel free to ignore as I see you have lots of people saying yes. And I do agree sometimes a wildcard/different item is so much fun and just the right thing.

I love the color! It is casual looking, but the color makes it for me.

Kiwigal - totally appreciate the comments - exactly the types I was looking for. Interesting points on the placket from both you & Una. Never thought about that. Placket doesn't bother me, though. I agree on the casual factor, and hear what you are saying.

I will keep this in the bag for a bit longer. The weather here is still super warm so I'll see how I feel about this in the weeks to come. I can be impulsive and really appreciate all comments.

I like it - the colour and that it fits you as if it purposefully over-sized if that makes sense. I like that there is interest in the texture but the overall looks is simple and sleek and I like the generous sizing of the hood

The color is fantastic, and I can see it being really fun for you to wear. I really like wearing my bright coral coat--the brightest light in my closet full of dark, neutral coats. I think the style is good, too--a current casual silhouette with the oversized fit, straight shape and dropped shoulders. The oversized hood is good for balancing out the width at the shoulder line, too. I don't see it as a frumpy length, but what do I know about that?
I like your idea of reserving final judgment for a little bit, since you don't need to wear it yet. Use the return period to advantage.

You couldn't look frumpy if you tried! That orange coat is sooooo snuggly and fun! It doesn't read mommy coat to me at all ... It reads cool chic :). And I am right there with you in the SAHM camp!
