K/R - Tulle Ball Skirts - YouLookFab Forum

So, with all my commitment to wearing my closet, making a plan on what to purchase etc, I went and bought: not one but TWO A FULL LENGTH TULLE BALLE SKIRTS. And the thing is, I kinds of love them. Can you set me straight? Should these only be worn by 21 yo fashion bloggers with a Moto jacket? Or can they be worn by a 41 yo grey haired mom who still likes dress up?!

But how do they fit in my life, you ask? Well, I think in can actually wear them. I would wear the blue to my fancy Christmas party (with stripes and a Moto) and I could wear them both to fancy days at the mosque (we have a lot of celebrations), to daytime weddings and maybe even to a shower. I would pair with stripes, tailored blush knit tops, and a good dose of grounding grey or black. What do you think? Be honest please. Do they overwhelm me? Are they just not appropriate for my age and stage?

Well, I think if you love the look enough to consider not one but two you should go for it. Especially because you already know when you would wear them. I would probably keep just one because they are so similar but I think having one fanciful, joy-inducing piece is completely reasonable.

You should keep them. Show us the outfits you make. I bought one when Una showed one (only $10), but it didn't fit and it turned out I couldn't pull it off, anyway. But I think you can,

I think this look has been absorbed into the classic non traditional style category so no constraint on age appropriate.

I much prefer the blue because I think it's more flattering,and the color steers the skirt away from the more traditional pink. When I was younger I always wanted the obvious version but recently I've had good luck incorporating classic and borderline retro items into my wardrobe if they have something a little different.

It sounds like you have plenty of fancy events where you could wear them. I would probably only keep one - probably the blue one because I find it less sweet than the pink one. I believe Goldenpig has a tulle skirt that she wears - maybe search her old posts for inspiration.

Absolutely you can wear a tulle skirt! They look fun! I think what will be tricky with these particular ones will be to find a top with the right proportions. (And do the skirts fit you well at the waist? The photo makes them appear as if they might be too large or might be settling down onto your hips?)

I can't help you. I love tulle skirts. In fact, I was fingering one at Nordstrom on Wednesday evening. And the one at Nordstrom wasn't nearly as nice as the two you have pictured. If it is any help whatsoever, I seem to prefer the blue based on the pictures.

I like them and I think you should keep them as it sounds like you have thought about where and when you might wear them. I agree with Isabel that the look has become mainstream enough that it's not solely the province of the young anymore.

The one thing I might do is either hide or remove (if they don't serve a structural purpose) the ribbon ties. They're kind of distracting and sloppy looking to me and I think I'd prefer the sleeker look without.

I'll be the one who says Nay. I think you could wear other dress-up type items that would look more sophisticated than these, myself. Having said that, I far prefer your colouring in the blue.

if you don't mind my honesty, it looks too costumey to me. Combination of tulle, ribbons and pastel colors looks like a little girl dress up as princess. Sorry. But I am sure there are some versions of tulle skirts that will look great on you.

If you love them, I'd say keep one and wear it. I find duplication almost never serves me well, and I think that would be more true on this more statement piece.

I have 2 kids, 6 and 3, and the 6yo won't wear tulle skirts anymore as she says they're for little kids.

No reason you shouldn't wear tulle, but I think these are too long for regular wear. I'd say keep the blue one, wear it full length for the festive season and then shorten it for daywear in spring. Make a deal with yourself: when you've figured out how to wear it you can buy another.

I don't wear tulle, but I do wear plisse skirts. At this point, I have three, which is a good number for a capsule. I usually layer them under winter dresses with boots and tights. They're more useful than you might think.

I vote keep them both. Duplication is a great idea when you find items that you love and are sure you'll wear several times, at a reasonable price. Of course, these skirts are not for everyday use, but it's wonderful to have them for those dressy or semi-dressy occasions you have mentioned. I don't think tulle skirts are age related. You can style them in a multitude of ways. When I was at the theater last week, I noticed a lady in her last 70s wearing a champagne ankle long tulle skirt combined with a black pullover top, an black moto jacket, chic black booties, a golden belt, gold earrings and a statement gold bracelet. She looked gorgeous!

I can't be anything but perfectly honest, and say that I'm not loving this look on you. I don't see the "fit" between you, and this skirt. As apporprio says, perhaps it's the length? Or the colour? But I see too juvenile and costumey.

By the way, I agree with what others have said about the ribbon ties. I suggest wearing the skirts with a braided silver belt--this would look more sophisticated, echo the beautiful grey parts of your hair, and look great with all the other colours you are planning to wear with these skirts. Note that a braided belt looks casual chic and can be a very versatile item.

My thoughts are similar to lisa p - these particular tulle skirts with their pastel colors and ribbon ties do look like something a pre-teen would wear. But I think you'd look divine in a more grown-up tulle skirt. Something along the lines of this :https://morninglavender.com/co.....midi-skirt

I like the blue skirt. Would remove the ribbon and use a silver belt as previously suggested by The Cat. The top will need to be something sophisticated and simple. I agree with the Moro jacket for increased edge factor. But you might like a pale cropped cardigan at some point too.
It brings you joy, so go have fun with it!

Keep one. For fun. For the memories. Return the other. Save the money. You obviously crave fun in your wardrobe. You will find it. I promise.

Thanks every one for the encouragement and the honesty - that's what I count on this group for! You helped me take off my sake giggles and see these skirts clearly. I also reminded myself that my style descriptors are luxe, modern, sophisticated and clean lines, so if I can't make this work with that ethic, back it goes.

The pink is for sure going back, and the blue may be too. If I do keep it, I will lop off a few inches from the bottom to show my calves and ankles, remove the flimsy ribbon belt, and wear it with a fitted scoop neck or boat neck top and high heels. I'll keep you posted - thank you for helping a girl out!
