K/R - Part 2: Juniors pants

These were both in Angie's picks from the Nordstrom sale

1-5: Mimi Chica pants: I don't know if I can pull these off since I'm not a gal who wears pumps. I lightened the photos so you can see the fit.

1/2 - worn "pulled up" above the calf, harem style

3/4 - worn "long", with matching shoes

5 - worn "long", with neutral (leg lengthening) shoes

Thoughts? Thoughts on styling?

7/8 - Silver Jeans Co. Are these just too "young" looking for me? The rise is very low in front, which accentuates the winter weight gain, but I could see bombing around in these on the weekends/at the cabin. Excuse the humpback that is really accentuated in the last pic and that I inherited from my mom and grandma : ( .

Honest opinions, please.

I really like the pants at their shorter length--they look great, IMO! I'm not a huge fan of the bold topstitching/pocket embellishment on the jeans--that makes them look junior-ish to my eye. Just my two cents--let's see what everyone says, especially Angie!

I see no humpback--just strong shoulders from all of your biking :)!

Yes, exactly, Jonesy. That's what I'm worried about. But then again, if they're for more casual wear...hmmm...

You'd think with all the pilates I do (3x/week), my posture would be better, but I think it's just genetic : (

I like the black pants. I had a similar pair one summer. What ultimately relegated them to the "donate" pile was the fact it was too fussy to keep them up all the time. Mine wouldn't stay scrunched when actually moving about. Standing still? I looked awesome. Moving? Not so much. One leg always slid down. I'd test drive that feature before fully committing to these pants ... or just be okay wearing them down. But if you really like them scrunched up the best, make sure they stay up. FWIW, I like them scrunched on you.

I would return the jeans. They look juniorish. Not as fab as you are!!

Love the Mimi pants scrunched - the fit and proportions are great. I'm far from any kind of expert on jeans so will leave the one up to the experts.

Anne - fortunately for me, I have very muscular calves LOL, so I think that they would stay up! But I'll definitely test it out.

Another "too juniorish" vote...

I'm not sure about the clams. They do seem kind of youngish. If you like the AT colored clams, can you duplicate them in another color? I got the orange and green.

I feel like the black is so dark for you but I like the fit of the pants.

I really like the black pants scrunched. To me, that is a great look. I am not a fan of the heavy white topstiching on the jeans. I like the look from the front, but too much stitching on the back.

I like the black pants at knee length. The jeans are ok but they might be very casual in that combination of wash and length.

I love the black pants worn harem style! That 's the perfect clam length when they're pulled up. I have some on order too, but I'm worried now that they won't stay scrunched on me after reading Anne's comment (toothpick calves). If you think they'll stay up, KEEP! I love the slouchy fit: perfect!

The fit of the jeans looks good, but I just don't like the bleaching and the back pockets. You certainly have the bod to wear them, though! Love the emerald/navy striped shirt!

The black pants are awesome harem style!! I hope you keep. I mean assuming they will stay up. If not, forget it - fuss factor would be a deal breaker.

I like the jeans from the front but I'm not a fan of those back pockets. It's not that they don't fit well (on the contrary - they look great!) but those pockets do feel "junior."

LOL, we are getting some very clear consensus that women approaching 50 should NOT wear jeans with mega-stitching on the back pockets! You are all confirming my suspicions.

There is also growing consensus on the "scrunched" black pants. FINALLY, my muscular calves are coming in handy, fashion-wise. (Rita - I know what you mean about me in black, but maybe I can lighten these up with colorful tops)

Sarah: I like the harem pants, and can imagine how flowy and easy they'd be for casual summer days. The jeans? I can't take all the pocket bling, but to my eye it isn't an "age" issue. I think simpler pockets look more modern and expensive. From the front -- they rock.

BTW -- It's possible that the white stitching is more prominent in pics than IRL.

Love the black pants pulled up like in #1 and #2!!

(Keep and wear with your white blazer EDIT: OK I may be biased on that front, since I wore essentially the same thing recently!)

I like the clams too. It's really up to you whether you like the top stitching. I do not think it's age inappropriate.

Thanks, everyone. The black pants are keepers - it's unanimous. I think that the crops are going back - the stitching is a bit much for me, and even tho they're super comfy, I can't really justify having them just for "bombing around". And goodness knows, I do NOT need another pair of jeans.

(Aida, I'm going to have to go back and study all the ways you've worn those pants! But simply adding my white jacket to the above would be a first step. Thanks!)
