K/R - Part 1: shoes and trench

1/2/6 - What do you think about these shoes for casual summer wear? Of the two, I think I prefer the emerald/turquoise. But are they frumpy?

3/4/5 - I picked up this Gallery trench at the Nordies sale - thoughts? Obviously I wouldn't be wearing it with clams and mismatched shoes : )

I think the emerald shoes look great. Not frumpy! I prefer those over the light shoes. More fun. That jacket color is great. So beautiful with your coloring.

I like the trench and the turquoise sandals! The turquoise ones don't look frumpy but the white ones do look a little frumpy to me. The trench color looks great on you!

If you want honesty, I think both pairs of sandals are frumpy. Something about the straps.....I'm pretty sure Makrame bought that coat in that color, recently. I think it looks good overall on you, though the sleeves look too long--would you shorten? Are the shoulders the right width, i.e., not too wide for you? Trying to remember if Makrame sized down on this......brain too foggy....but maybe you could search for her thread, if you were interested?

I'll be interested to see how the shoe vote comes down on frump vs. no-frump.

Jonesy - Yes, I think the shoulders are a bit broad - this is an SP, not sure if the XSP would have narrower shoulders. Perhaps others will know.

The colour of that trench is AMAZING on you Sarah! I actually think the fit is good - you want a wee bit of room to layer a blazer or thicker sweater underneath. I think a size smaller might make that dificult - although I guess you would only know by trying on the smaller size. The sleeves look long and would need shortening I think. I love this jacket on you.

Sarah, I tried these shoes on in the light color (and thought they looked frumpy on *my* foot) but they didn't have the tan foot bed and heel cup that these do. I like how the color blocking makes them look more modern and not like a generic orthopedic sandal. The turquoise is pretty too.

I LOVE the trench! The color is fabulous on you! The fit is terrific, just fix the sleeves and it's perfect!

And I also like the emerald sandals.I usually am a bad judge of frumpiness in shoes so take my opinion with a grain of salt, bu I think the color makes them more current.

The trench is gorgeous and I'm so glad you tried it on; I've been eyeing it for myself. Probably won't order (due to shipping and duty) but might if it is still there when hubs goes to the US next month. I do think it might be too long in the sleeve, but try layering with a jacket to be sure.

I'm not sure about the shoes; it sort of depends. Not crazy about them in neutral. Turquoise might be good depending on what you're planning to wear them with. Can we see with a few outfits?

I do have a poisoned eye for this type of sandal but I much more prefer the emerald green to the colorblocked ones.
The trench looks good but I'm thinking a size down might fit you even better at the shoulder line. I think the key with trenches is to get the shoulder right, then the rest will follow.

Love the color and shape of the trench (yay, single breasted!) but it looks a wee bit big in the shoulders and arms to me. Maybe try a size down? Although... my blue trench fits a little looser like this and sometimes it's nice to have a less constricting jacket that you can layer under.

The green sandals are nice, but I think the cream ones look a bit too bandage-y to me.

I like the green sandals better than the white sandals. I think their frump level depends on what you pair them with. They're not shoes that can carry an outfit KWIM. They need to be worn with something that draws the eye up to avoid stumpification.

I like the color of the green sandal - it looks like a "work" shoe or an office sandal. I don't like a very bare sandal for work and this seems like that with the closed back. The nude is not as great.
Love the trench but agree the arms are a bit long.

Hmm I'm a nay vote on both sandals. Love the cut and color of the trench, but it definitely looks too large to me. So another vote to try a size down on that one Is the color as vibrant in person as it appears in the photo?

Love the coat, and I don't think it looks too large (unless it feels that way or the shoulder seams extend past your shoulders). It doesn't gather much at the waist when belted, indicating that there isn't a lot of extra fabric there. The sleeves are simply a little more generous, which can give the impression of a larger fit, IMO.

The sandals are frumpy to me, but moreover they look a little bit too large. I guess that's a comfort issue, though, and depends on how you prefer to wear your shoes. I also have a poisoned eye for that sort of sandal, though, so take my opinion on them with a grain of salt. If you love them, then keep the teal over the natural colour.

Ditto Jonesy on everything. Love the color of the trench on you but shoulders look a bitt wide and sleeves too long. Can you try a size down?
I like green shoes better than white but something about the the upper straps are positions gives me pause to call then 10s...

Not a fan of either sandal, though if pressed, I would choose the two-tones. They look too big, also.
As to the coat, echoing suggestion of trying a smaller size.

I think some of your old sandals, leather versions, are more up your alley.

I agree with Jonesy, I find this style of sandal frumpy because of the wide sort of striated straps. But I am no sandal expert, since I don't wear them.

The trench is fab in that color on you! I am jealous!

Yes, I got the same trench! Mine is a small (not petite). I love the color on you, and I think the fit is quite good but I would do a side-by-side comparison with XSP.

I don't think the style of shoe has to be frumpy, but I am having a hard time picturing them with your sophisticated style that would get me enthusiastic. (I could picture them in a youthful 60s/70s era summer look--cutoffs, fringe, or whatnot) Same comments as everyone else about the coat. Try it on with a blazer or leather jacket underneath and see if the shoulders are right that way or if they are too roomy. I often use my trench as an overcoat over a lighter jacket.h
