K/R - Old Navy Wool Blend Purple Peacoat

I broke my personal resolution to avoid sales at Old Navy and nabbed this wool blend peacoat for $28. If I keep it, I will definitely be changing the buttons for dark grey or black ones. I think the fit is okay, but I wonder if the double breasted style is flattering? I have always avoided it because of my wider shoulders/large bust. I am also wondering if I should exchange for the blue, or maybe the white and grey plaid? Decisions, decisions...

So..... Keep or Return?

Sidenote - has anyone purchased outerwear from Old Navy before? How does it hold up?

The double breasted style is fine, I think your only dilemma is which color and i am no help as I love all 3...

I tried all of those colours on at Old Navy last week. I think the purple is the winner by far and I like the fit on you. For my location, i would consider this a fall jacket rather than a winter one because it simply isnt warm enough. My daughter has the blue one and has worn it quite a bit and it has held up nicely. I vote keep - looks great!

I vote keep, and i like the purple color the best!

No experience on their quality, but for $28, I am betting it only lasts a few seasons. But still, a few seasons of wear is worth it to me. I could not wear it as a winter coat as it gets too cold by me, but a great fall/spring coatin a pretty color is always nice!

The coat is really nice and it fits you great. What don't you like about the buttons?
I had an old navy puffer and it held up great until my hubby ripped it last winter. Can't speak about their wool coats though.

The purple looks great on you! I vote keep. I also got a wool blend coat during ON's outerwear sale. Here's hoping it holds up!

I like it a lot! However, it looks a little snug to me. What are you wearing under it? If you are trying it on with a bulky sweater, I would keep it; however, if you plan to wear it with bulkier items underneath, you may wish to size up. I LOVE ON coats and am about to order one myself (since they don't carry petites in the stores). Tip: you may want to look at Goodwill or something for a cheap peacoat with nice buttons, so you can get all the buttons you will need for CHEAP. I've only ever had one coat from ON, and this was several years ago, but it was a wool blend and held up just fine. I only got rid of it because it was actually quite a bit too large on me (this was before I discovered petite sizes).

I think Rae has an Old Navy fishtail anorak she loves. I have a linen moto that is great. I don't really have issue with ON quality on their woven items - knits are another story. But I figure $28 is a great price to find out! What's the worst, one season of a fun colored coat?

For that price, hang onto that baby and enjoy! It's really cute on you. I am tempted myself, even though for me it would be fall wear only.

It's a cute jacket for the price. But I think it's more of a jacket than a coat, unless you size up and can get heavier knitwear underneath.

Thanks, all! To those who were concerned about the cold, rest assured that I have a longer wool coat for serious winter wear and a columbia 3-in-1 for playing outside, so I am covered on that front.

Glory: Thanks for your tip re: the colors, I think I will stick to Purple.

Modgirl: re: the buttons, I am just not a fan of Gold/Brass

Shoppingisfun - great idea re: thrifting for reclaimed buttons! I may actually have a dead peacoat with some black buttons on it that I can salvage...

I like it, but it's a little short maybe? I like my coats to at least partly cover my bum... but other than that it's good?

I do think their wool blends hold up well - mine is 55% wool, 45% polyester. I got it back in January of 2009, and it has been my ONLY coat for 3 winter seasons (one of which was absurdly long, lasting from September through April). My coat's magenta lining is showing through on the sleeves and pockets, but it looks okay enough that I'll keep wearing it through this winter season and replace it for next year.

I've attached photos of my 3 year old coat - I love it!

I just bought one of those coats from ON also! I got mine in navy blue because I really wanted a navy blue coat this winter. I'm hoping mine holds up for several seasons too, so I'm glad to read the posts from other forum members.
