K/R - nearing the last of the NAS orders

VC houndstooth "ankle" pants - I tried these in regular sizing on Donna's suggestion, because on me, they aren't "ankle" length. The houndstooth is hard to see, so I included closeup. I would press out the crease a la Angie, but I'm wondering if they drape well. There seem to be a lot of "wrinkles" in the back in #9.

Only Mine sweater in Small. I actually managed to locate an XS (in purple) after I ordered this one, and it is on the way. Am I swimming in this? I have the sleeves rolled up once and it looks particularly large from the back.

Thoughts? thanks for your feedback.

I love those pants. Of course, I love houndstooth. I don't think the sweater looks too big because it's supposed to have some volume. But if you're more comfortable in the smaller one when it arrives, you are the one who has to wear it. I suspect it will also look great on you.

I agree with you that the sweater looks too big on your petite frame. Hopefully the smaller one will work out.

As to the back of the pants, I see what you mean. My instinct says that if the crotch seam was just a little deeper, that might take care of the extra fabric at the back of the upper thighs, and also make it look less tight in the center butt area. I would like to hear other opinions on possible alterations for the pants. Otherwise, I really like the fabric and they seem to be a great fit in the front.

I LOVE the pants I am not an expert on the fit, but I suspect that if you shortened them just a touch or wore them with shoes they could break over more easily, you'd be in heaven. These look super-wearable and wonderful.

As for the sweater, I don't think it is a good fit or perhaps style for you. I would like to see the smaller size, but I wonder if your shoulders simply don't fill it out as it requires (as per your post today).

the pants look great from the front, but yea, from the back they look big. Try playing around with some basting and see if you can work that out.
I'm not crazy about the sweater on you... just seems a bit shapeless. Perhaps the smaller size will work out better for you.

I think the pants look too big in the legs for you - the Nordstroms description says that they are a "slim-fit" and these are definitely not slim-fit on you! However, they look a little tight in the back in the "bum" area - and then baggy in the legs. I don't know anything about sewing or tailoring, but I'm wondering if you could get them altered to work for your body? Otherwise, I'd send them back.

I'm also with the others who say that the sweater is not working that well for you - it just looks really shapeless to me in the front, and then in the back it almost looks too small - so, I just don't know. FYI - I haven't seen anyone in this sweater that I thought was flattering on them, so take my opinion with a grain of salt - at this point, I'm probably pretty biased against the sweater!

This is tough - I love houndstooth and in the first pictures I like the fit but feel they need to be a bit shortened. But by picture #9 they do look big in the back. Similarly I like the blue sweater, but I go for oversized looks!

Yes, the more I look at the pics, the more I think that the pants are just ill-fitting in the back of the legs, and I'm not sure it's worth trying to alter them. Too bad, because from the front they aren't that bad. It's a bit strange, isn't it?

It seems that you all agree with me that the sweater is either too big, or just isn't a good style because of my sloping shoulders.

That's weird about the pants! I really like how they look from the front., but the back just isn't right.

As far as the sweater, it looks pretty big, but I bet the XS will be good.

The back rise of the pants seems to be too short which creates the creasing and pulling you see on center back and side seams. That's a hard alteration because, in most cases, women's pants do not include extra fabric in the back seam which would be needed for the alteration. I'd pass on the pants, which would be hard because I love the houndstooth pattern and they look so nice in the front.

The S size sweater definitely is a loose fit. I guess it depends on how much slouch you like. Personally, I think I'd go for a smaller size as long as it still had the loose, flowy look. I really like that blue color on you, though.

I haven't read the other comments and expect I'm probably going to be the outlier here, because I think that as lovely as the pants pattern is, the fit in the rear is a deal-breaker for me if it's not something that could be addressed through alteration. *sigh* This is partly why pants-shopping gets me down. The fit can be just perfect from the front, and then from the back it's too tight or too baggy.

To me, the brown pair that you recently altered is MUCH more flattering to your beautiful frame than the pair featured on this post. Take this with a grain of salt, though, because I really prefer more fitted bottoms even when they are on the slouchy side - I can't wrap my brain around the baggy-crotch BF jeans, but I like seeing them on others when the fit is just a touch relaxed.

I'd like to see a smaller version of the sweater, and see them worn with a slimmer-fitting bottom, before making judgment on which size I'd personally prefer. I'll bet that the purple color will look absolutely amazing on you! The teal is lovely too, but I personally think it's too large to wear with a slouchy-fitting item like these trousers.

I think the sweater would look great with very slim-fitting trousers, but I would also be interested in seeing the XS for comparison. It doesn't read automatically too large to me, but rather not well paired in this particular combo. While I love the fabric and front of the trousers, there is just too much fabric on the back of the leg. Have you ever tried Theory trousers? While I have some I love, many of their cuts don't work on me because I have a lot of, um, lower butt that would probably take up the extra room in those houndstooth trousers. For that reason I wonder if some Theory cuts might work really well on you. if there is a Theory store you can go to, I would definitely go try on several styles to see if one doesn't work out.

Hmm. Do you have the pants hiked up too high? Are they supposed to rest lower on your hip? If you scooch them down lower, does that fix the puckering in the back? Looking at how the pants look on the model, I almost want to say that you need a size smaller in these pants, because they look like they are supposed to be slimmer fitting in the legs, and low rise (not all the way up to your belly button).

The trousers look great! Wow! They need to be shortened just a tad, Sarah. They look so much better on you than they do on the model.

The pullover fits just how it should fit. It's not too large at all. Most of the people who ordered this style on YLF, ordered it too small. I vote keep and scrunch the sleeves

Sarah, I think the trousers "on you* are achieving a modern and fashion forward fit - ignore the fit on the model because that is not the look that you are trying to achieve.

They ARE baggy. Too baggy is debatable depending on the look you are going for. Of course, I do not know whether they will stretch out during wear.

Furthermore, shortening them will probably take away some of the bagginess. Pin and try that first.

Some will view it that way, Sarah - that the trousers are a bad fit. I think these trousers are worth a little more effort because I know the look that you are after.

I just ordered this sweater in small, and I've refrained from commenting because I feel like I need to see it in person. However, I almost always favor a less fitted look in an item like this sweater, so I'm inclined to say it fits the way it's meant to fit.

I think the pants look good too!

Sarah, don't return the pants until you try pinning them to the length you want. Remember those Lafayette pants I linked to before? They were baggy in the back until the seamstress pinned them to the appropriate length and then the fit was much smoother.

On the whole I have to admit that I'm not that fond of the sweater. I'm just not crazy about the zipper...
