K/R - Lace Skirt

Taken in a rush between photo bombings by DD. Here is the holiday skirt with the black cashmere sweater and a goldnecklace. Stand in leopard smoking slippers for the black ones on order.

DH had a definite opinion, but I want to see what you all think

I know black is worn a lot for holiday parties, but with your delicate coloring, I don't think it does anything for you. I know this is about the skirt, which is fine, but could you substitute a different top - pale pink or something?

Love the skirt. Pretty texture and a good length IMO.
I like the leopard shoes if you are going with the black sweater. They might not be dressy enough (I can't tell) but the pattern provides some additional interest.

I agree with JAileen. I love the skirt, but would you consider another color top? I think your burgundy top would look very pretty.

The skirt looks great, Thistle!
But would you consider more of a festive sweater with it? Either a fun color or something with a little sparkle would look terrific.
Also, I know you don't wear heels much, but could you wear a pump with a pointy toe and maybe a kitten heel instead of smoking flats?

Another great skirt! I like this a lot on you. I agree that another colour sweater would be better, but the fit on both pieces looks great to me.

The skirt is gorgeous, and leopard shoes would be fab. A pretty red cashmere sweater or scarf would be fantastic.

I think you need sparkle and how do you feel about a 3/4 length sleeve? I would actually wear a winter white cowlneck with that skirt. No necklace, hair up, some makeup and the bow flats I posted earlier. Very sheer black hose, with perhaps a fun detail down the back of the leg.

Hmm, red is usually worse on me than black.

Perhaps I should see if I can find a gold scarf? I have on a gold necklace, a big chunky "lace" one with interlinking locks. Perhaps not big enough, whereas the scarf would be?

If I change the color of my top, the only other cashmere I have is aqua blue. I was trying for the fuzzy bit without being horribly itchy. I could try to find a top with some sparkle, and maybe wear it with jeans to my in laws for Christmas and my mom's for Christmas Eve. Maybe for New Year's before packing it up for next year.

Do you have a long gold necklace? A tassel shape or something like that might work to break up all the black.

I like the skirt, but am not sure the black combo adds festivity or party mood, much. It seems almost more conservative and office-y than the idea of the wrap dress in a more flattering color. Would you wear sheer nude or black hose with the new shoes?

Yep agree with the rest. Lovely skirt! A lighter top will definitely do the trick! May be a blush one (if you are going to shop that is)? Would love to see it with aqua bue too

Hmm, I'm going to break with the pack here and say that I prefer a skirt that is slightly more tapered, especially for a more festive occasion. If this is going to be party wear, I just can't see this outfit being dressy/festive enough. Have you thought about one of your wrap dresses with a wrap for your shoulders? Or perhaps a pink sweater with some sort of sequin or shine on it? I understand the vibe you are going for, but I am having a hard time seeing it work, as this outfit looks very mid-week work wear instead of festive party wear.

This skirt is not as pencil- y as the tube skirt you showed, and I think that one was more chic and flattering. - if you're not sold on it yourself, I'd pass and not get it just to have a lace skirt.

Thistle, I was looking to see if I could find a top to go with your skirt, and I found this one. It wouldn't go with the lace skirt, but if you have a plain black skirt it would make a dressy outfit from it, and I know the wrap style looks so pretty on you.

I like the skirt but you definetelly need some sparkle(or more interest) on the top part...go wild and put that chuncky necklace on, or a sequin scarf. What about a black boa?:-)
The black cashmere sweater would look glorious on a lace skirt if the lining of it would be another dark but (non black) color, say darksilver/ navy, red/brown. I speciffically didn't say tan, because it can be tricky-but you can try it too.

Hmmm, perhaps I should pass on the lace skirt.

I will try to post pictures of the wrap dress tonight. I already have that dress, and returning this skirt would free up fashion dollars for a really pretty necklace to go with the wrap dress!

I usually adore a black lace skirt, and you look lovely in it! But the outfit just doesn't hold a candle to Thistle in Full Color. When you wear color next to your face, you absolutely glow.

Pair the skirt with something in one of your colors?

I love the lace skirt. It's killer. Agree that another top is in order. A little more texture and bling.

But I also like the idea of the wrap dress with new bling.

Well I like the skirt on you, but agree with the comments that the outfit overall isn't special enough/doesn't do you justice. However I think you could find a dressier top in a colour, and have a great outfit, and then still be able to dress both pieces down with other separates for the office (or the family xmas parties you mentioned. But I don't think you have to pack that away after Christmas... sparkle is in!). Would you be comfortable wearing this as is to the office, for example? Why not keep the lace skirt as a weekday separate?
