K/R - Have I Got the Busty Brooks Brothers Blues?

I can't believe I'm posting this pic in my pj's and my hair that's has just returned from 3 days in a cabin the woods with no running water, and several long xc skis. OH WELL, I want to sort out whether I have the right size in this Brooks Brothers tailored fit shirt, and I'm too impatient to wait until I'm in better shape to post a pic. I'm showing a 4P. But I think that the top button is pulling too much, and I should probably size up. What do you think?

I'm posting a WIW from last week just to (hopefully) make up for the others.

I think you might be right about the top button - it does look like it's pulling but only by a smidge. If you can, it would probably be worthwhile to try the size up and see the difference.

To my eye, it looks a bit snug thru the bustline, although it is not gaping. The sleeves seem to be a bit long. Wouldn't they be super long if you sized up? How does the *fitted* style fit? I've been meaning to get over to the BB store to try both cuts to see if one or both or neither give me a fit. I would be interested in your observations vis-a-vis their petite sizing.

Shannon, you're sweet. I think I'd better try the next size up - I wish I didn't have to mail order, but the store is just too far away for my busy life.

Donna, I tried the fitted style, but it doesn't button all the way up, which was a deal-breaker for me (it has a sort of "vee" neck, with no buttons near the top). It did fit better in the bust, however. I'm not sure whether the sleeves will be longer or not, although I do pretty much roll my sleeves up all the time when I wear button downs (or they are hidden under jackets), so I'm not sure it matters. These are not buttoned, BTW.

Shannon's right, I think. Just a smidge. Trouble is, it IS just a smidge --- meaning the next size up just may be too large. (In which case, would you consider resewing the button?)

LOVE your scarf in that other picture. And love how you showcase it as the focal point of the outfit --- it's almost as if everything else is accessorizing the scarf, rather than the other way round. You look stylish there!

I agree with Manidipa about the scarf outfit; it's gorgeous, and it's all about the scarf.

It's fun seeing you with your skis, and so excited to try on your new shirt. I think it's very close to being ok. Do you have other bras that might make it fit you differently? There certainly isn't any gaping. Does it have stretch? Do you turn the cuffs up french-cuff style? I can't imagine you in a larger size unless the sleeves would stay about the same. Good luck, I like the crispness on you!

BTW, you look so different with your pixie, and somehow it makes you look taller! I have no idea why, but that's the impression I get. Maybe you feel so fab that you're standing up starighter or something, lol!

Manidipa and Claire - yes, I was definitely making the clothes accessorize the scarf in that one LOL!

You're right - it is too tight by just a fraction. But I'll try the next size up and see how that works, especially with the sleeve length.

I'm not sure, this might just not be your cut of shirt... it seems tight in some areas and loose in others. How do you feel about rolling the sleeves? The foxcroft button shirts come in petite too. Did you try any of those to compare?

You look MIGHTY good for just coming home from a cabin with no running water!! I must say you look beautiful, AND I'm loving the pixie. I had not seen whether you were going to go through with it or not and awe!! You look amazing.
The shirt seems too long in the sleeves and too short in the torso to me. Not that I'm any kind of expert. I found when I tried the BB shirts that the torso was way too short for me so I went back to the FoxCroft Fitted from Nordstrom's. I was sad because I really wanted the BB's to work and I was also surprised that they weren't offered in a longer length, except for custom made.
Your outfit is great! Your new hair cut takes your whole look up to sky high! Do you love it?
Do I understand that you've been at a cabin for several days with no running water and you were skiing? You are a very strong and brave woman, and you look very fit and great.

I agree with your conclusion, I would size up. I'm not too worried about the sleeves as there's usually not that much difference in sleeve length from one size to the next. (Two or three sizes difference, yes.) Plus you said they were unbuttoned in the picture and that you roll them.

I am the same, I almost always roll my shirts even when the sleeves fit right.

I actually think you have the right size in terms of how it fits at the bust - the shirt is supposed to be fitted. Any bigger and the shirt will be too bulky to layer over it, unless you want to go for a more relaxed, intentionally oversized fit. I rather think that the sleeves might be a tad long for you. It is there where I see the fit issue. Also, I think the torso might be a smidge too short.

Sarah - I'm in love with your WIW. That scarf is too amazing. I wish I had some advice for the white shirt. There's something off about it, but I can't tell what it is. I have the hardest time finding the perfect white shirt.

I agree that it looks tight by just a tiny fraction. For comfort's sake, you might want to size up.

Look at fashionable you with the color coordinated scarf and skirt. You look fabulous!

Are you wearing the right bra with that shirt, Sarah? It's definitely too snug on the bust, and will gape when you move and sit.

Yes, this is my new-this-year-post-fitting bra from Nordstrom's, so I think that the shirt is really too snug and I should try the next size up. What do you think about the Foxcrofts? It does seem that the sleeves are pretty long on the BB.

You're right about the bust, and as another busty woman, I have to say that the BB shirt that doesn't button all the way up was WAY more flattering on me.

I agree with Di -- that style of shirt fits me much better as well, it's not cut so straight.

Banana Republic has a decent white shirt that fits me well and buttons all the way up -- maybe that would be a good option for you? It requires a *little* bit of ironing IMHO, despite the non-iron claim, but still a nice shirt.

I think the shirt looks great from the back, but the bust fit would make me go up a size personally. Fie on buttondowns!

Since there are so many other *lesser* white shirts out there, for the price of the BB shirt, I would definitely want a Fab Fit. Otherwise, I think I would always be vaguely unhappy and disappointed. Fitted white shirts are a challenge for some of us; boxy shirts are much easier to fit, but they are well, boxy!

I always size up in my BB shirts- little roomier at the waist but the girls stay in place!

This is such a nice WIW! Great scarf!

I can relate to the busti-ness issue, and I don't like to wear shirts with v-shaped necklines for work, although they may be more flattering.

The shirt looks a bit tight in front. I would try sizing up for sure. I also tried Banana Republic shirts but they did not work for me at all. I have a couple of shirts from Ann Taylor Loft that are pretty good (including a nice white shirt) and one from Ann Taylor. I still haven't had a chance to compare them to Brooks Brothers' shirts but pricewise they are a steal when on sale, compared to BB.
