K/R - EB boyfriend jeans + button down ETA new pics!

The EB order arrived an hour ago and I had my sister take some pictures. Please excuse that they are kind of wonky. The proprtions are a bit off sometimes.

I'm not all that sure about the jeans or how they are supposed to fit. The darker wash fits one size down and is roomier in my actual size, the lighter wash fits tightly in my actual size, I didn't even open one size down. Would it be better to try the lighter ones one size up? I'm not sure if these are flattering - what do you think?

All three are too long, so they would need shortening. I could roll them better up then too.

And another question, what do you think about the button down shirt? I wanted a thin one to wear in warmer weather and this fabric is super lightweight without being too flimsy. Is the pattern and fit alright?

#1-3 Light wash in my actual size
#4-6 Dark wash in my actual size
#7-9 Dark wash one size down

I think the dark wash in your actual size, or one size up in the light wash is the way to go. I like the shirt!

Okay, I'll take a stab at this: your BF sweet spot!! I'm favoring the darker wash pair - are they the same style as the light ones? But I'd like to try one size up for more BF bagginess. It was pics 4 & 6 that won me over.

I do like the lighter wash too, especially in pic 2, but they aren't as baggy as I'd like on you, and I'm still leaning toward the darker ones.

Overall, I'd definitely size up one or two sizes (if you're not minding the returns). I always like having checked out BOTH extremes - too small and too big

I like the blouse with them. I figure you'll be belting the BFs and could do a semi tuck . . .

I like the darker wash in the smaller size, but am not crazy about how the pockets are angled outwards, creating a wider hipline. Pocket placement on the lighter pair seems fine.

The shirt colors look great on you! How is the fit in the hips? It seems to gather a bit in the back.

Thanks Ceit. I guess I still have to get used to the bagginess of this style. My first rection to the bigger ones was: jeans that just don't fit.

Thanks Sara. They aren't the exact same style, the darker ones were cheaper too. I'm not sure which wash I like best, but I think the darker ones would be more versatile. Returns are not a problem, although I'm not sure if two sizes up wouldn't be too extreme. I think to get a really loose fit the waist would end up being much too wide (it's always to wide anyway) and I'm not sure I would be comfortable with that. Although I would wear a belt with these and semi-tuck too.

I guess it depends on if you want a summer bf or more of a fall/winter bf. The light wash in a size up could be good. The dark wash in 4-6 looks good as is. I might also recommend that you try Levis Curve ID in Curvy. Maybe like these:

DeclawedJaguar, I agree about the pocket placement on the darker wash. I have to pay more attention to pocket placement... The lighter one is available in a darker wash too, I could order that one a size up and with a different wash.

ETA The top fits in the hips, but it has a bit too much fabric in the back.

Texstyle, I guess I would like to wear them for both. I tried the Levis once but they looked strange on me.

I took three more pictures of the bigger size with the shirt semi-tucked and the jeans more on my hips. Thoughts?

If I hem them, to what length? Normal PPL?

I think I would like them more if they didn't look so stiff (best seen in the rearview). Somehow slouchier jeans look best with a bit of drape, IMHO, and more fading/distressing. Are you feeling the urge to get a pair now, or could you hold out for something?

I can wait, although it would have been great if I could have taken these with me next week. It's true that they aren't very slouchy, but all the ones I've tried so far that had more slouch were so thin that they were unflattering. Maybe it will be a bit better after the first wash? That's sometimes the case with my jeans. And these are inexpensive, only 35€. I don't want to spend that much money on a pair of BF jeans. I love my skirts too much for that.

I think with washing and wearing, they will stretch out and become more relaxed. I think the normal size dark ones are the way to go. They look good slung down on your hips. Would you mostly be wearing them rolled higher or lower? That will tell you where to hem them. Una posted a bunch of photos of BF jean styles, check that out.

If you want them lower, then hem to PPL, and then you can do a roll or two and it won't be too bulky. If you want to do a higher roll to make them more like crops, then I would hem them to the ankle bone or a bit above so the roll isn't too bulky.

I like the larger dark ones, styled as you have in the second set of photos. I just said this in Natalie's thread too, but it bears repeating - I think BF jeans REQUIRE a belt (as in, the waist should be substantially loose) and should always be worn low on the waist.

I bet they will loosen up a bit even with a couple of hours of wear. My Gap ones relaxed a lot. I think it's more about the fabric loosening up rather than actually expanding. Do these have stretch? In my experience, stretch fabric will loosen considerably whereas non-stretch does loosen but more in a conforming to the body sort of way.

Thanks Ceit, I think so too. All my other jeans did. I'm not quite sure at what length I want them to hit, I'll do some experimenting. Thanks for suggesting Una's pics, I'll have a look!

Thanks Diana, that makes sense. They definitely look much better with a belt! I also think they will relax after a few hours, I have to change from not needing a belt to wearing one after a while with most of my jeans. Since I discovered the semi-tuck that's no longer a problem. These have a bit of stretch, but not too much.

Love them in the ETA pics, Astrid! I think they'll soften up, particularly if you put them in the dryer (do you have one?)

I didn't get to comment on the other thread about how much I like your new haird length. I bet it has more movement too. You can your sister are fortunate to both have such gorgeous heads of hair

Thanks Beth Ann! We have a dryer here at home (I don't have one in Berlin), although we never use them for jeans. I thought one shouldn't do that?

Using a dryer does change the fiber a little, and can cause a little shrinkage. I will dry larger and longer jeans on low, and find that the fibers "soften." I think I've read on the forum that some YLFer's feel that drying jeans causing them to bag out more. I haven't found this myself -- mostly I've just had trouble with them getting shorter. Just washing will remove some of the sizing that may be still in the fabric from manufacture.

Hope it's cool enough where you are to wear your bf's. It's scorching hot here!

Astrid, I agree with Beth Ann about the dryer too, although it is an unpopular opinion around here. I put almost all my jeans (including the premium ones) through the dryer and have never had problems with them stretching out; on occasion they do shrink a bit in length over many wash/dry cycles so I tend to hem everything long to start. The only jeans I don't put in the dryer are my one pair of jeggings that have 5% spandex, which I air dry because of the high stretch. All my other jeans are cotton with only 1-2% spandex, which I strongly prefer for looks and structure anyway. I suspect that jeans with higher % of spandex or more synthetic fibers might fare worse in the dryer but I don't have any experience with that. Anyway, I've never had a pair of jeans lose their structure or stretch by putting them in the dryer - and I keep most of my jeans for years, literally until they sprout big holes unrelated to the dryer.

Thanks for the explanation Beth Ann. I've already washed them but I didn't put them in the dryer, they are on the clothes line. I'll try them later to see how they are after the first wash. They still need hemming, I thought I would first hem them to PPL and then see how well I can roll them. Shortening them further is always possible.

Thanks Diana. I don't have a dryer myself, so regular drying isn't possible, but I could try it at my parents to maybe soften them up if they need it. We'll see.

Sorry I missed this post at the beginning Astrid - love the shirt! And I like these BF jeans a lot on you. I think the fit is very flattering. And I totally agree that washing them will soften them up some. I think these are definitely worth keeping. And thanks for mentioning EB - I always forget about them and I love that they carry petite sizes. I need to check them out more often.
