K/R - classic dark grey wool coat

Please ignore the hair, I'm still under the weather... Got the package with the two coats today. This is the smaller size, the bigger one was definitely too big. I overexposed the pictures so you can hopefully see something.

The length is definitely perfect, but I'm not sure about the fit. I feel like I need some waist definition! It's also slightly too big on top and does crazy things when I'm lifting my arms, see #4. I still have my peacoat in #6, so I'm thinking return... It's a great price, but the fit is just not perfect.

I loved the coat until I saw 4. I am not sure what is wrong there. It doesn't look too big to me in the pics. I wonder if it is too fitted across the back. In any case, I vote return too.

How is the fit in shoulders? Is it flared at the bottom?

Thanks Neel. That's just what happened to me too. I think that thing in #4 would drive me bonkers...

I wonder if I should try this Boden coat Angie recommended. There's still 20% off until midnight. It's black though. And still expensive.

Mona, the shoulders are a smidge too big, but not a lot. The shoulders of the peacoat are way more off. And it's not really flared, it has a slight a- line. I have room in the waist and it fits just over the hips.

i love the boden coat...isn't the coat that you are trying on also black?
i'm with neel on the current coat although the bunchiness may be due to the coat being fastened. does it do that when the coat is open? also, is that a normal stance for you or just trying out the range of motion in the coat in case you were being frisked?

Hmm, I'm not as fond of the new coat on you. I think more waist definition would be nice.

Ruth, the coat I had ordered is dark grey. It is rather dark, but it's definitely not black. If the black of the Boden coat would be softer and kind of greyed it would work. But true black isn't good on me. The issue with this coat is less noticeable when it's open, but it's still there. And yes, I use public transport daily and often have to hold on to something, so the problem would be visible every time I would have to lift my arms higher.

I love this coat on you. I find it classic and edgy at the same time. I can see you having it for many many years. Alas, that darn arm raising business!

It looks big all over to me. I vote to tey the boden one if you can afford it.

LOL, Glory... It's a standing coat, so I think I would definitely be able to wear it paired with sitting shoes.

Thanks abc. It's not really too big, but you're right that it's not the most figure flattering. I do have a tiny waist and this coat doesn't show it at all.

I've already boxed it again, so it will go back. You all just confirmed my decision. Now I just have to think about that Boden coat. I'll go check the measurements.

Still thinking about that Boden coat... Lands End has 20% off coats too until midnight.

So I didn't order the Boden coat, it's just too expensive and black besides... But I placed an order for this Lands End coat which was on sale with a further markdown. It now costs just a little more than the coat above. It's the regular size because there was no petite available, which means this coat will definitely be too long. But if the top part fits I can get it shortened for little money.

much much prefer the loden color in the lands end coat. the vertical seam on the back is also fun. great shaping too.

Love the Lands End coat. I just tried on a Lands End boiled wool walking coat at Sears the other day and loved the fit. Please let us know how well it fits when you get it. I tried on the size 10 and the length and fit in the waist and shoulders were perfect, but I don't think I could wear a bulky sweater with it.

Interesting! I really like the looks of the coat on you, and I think most coats with a set-in sleeve that is fairly fitted will bunch up like that when you raise your elbows. I wonder if you should look for a raglan sleeve style, which could give more ease in the shoulder area for moving around. Typically you don't see styles with waist definition and raglan sleeves, though.

The Lands End coat is really nice-looking!

Thanks Ruth! I like the color much better too. Plus I wanted to reduce the black in my wardrobe, not add to it.

Thanks Lara! I'll post pictures when it arrives. The US site has some measurements for the garments (which the German site hasn't) and the width is the same as the width of that purple peacoat I had ordered a while ago. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Thanks Sharan! I know that this is usually visible to a degree, but this is too much. I agree, I'm seeing raglan sleeves mostly on cocoon coats.

I love this coat on you. Length and cut is very elegant. But, there is the raising elbows business...well...I think the armholes are probably cut too loose and low. if it's not comfy, you should not buy it, of course. But love the look of it. I'm no help, I know....:-(
