K/R - classic button down shirt

I ordered this button down shirt with the thought of wearing it as a basic with everything. I really like the fit in the shoulders and arms, it's perfect. And it fits just right over my hips without pulling too! But it's too much fabric in the back and the waist respectively.

It sure would need tailoring, is it worth the effort? I pinned it in the back for the third picture, what do you think? Is this an easy alteration?

It still has the creases from packing and needs ironing, but the quality is excellent and the fabric feels very nice and not too thin. I like the color too. How is the length?

Looks great, Astrid. I like it in 2/3 the best but I think I'm partial to a more boyish cut when it comes to this style of shirt. If it were me, I would keep as is and keep my eyes peeled for a more fitted style too. They are two different animals, imho.

edited: duh, I meant 1/2. Lack of coffee.

Thanks, Kelly! I'm a bit confused though, do you mean #3 looks better than #1? Because I had it pinned tighter in #3. I would want it to look like that after alteration. Now it looks like #1 and I think I just look so much bigger in it that way.

I like #3 best! But #1 will work as well as a layering piece.

Such a pretty shirt Astrid - I love the colour. I like it best the way you have it pinned in #3. The fit looks lovely this way. I think it's worth the alterations because it fits so well in every other area. And a perfectly fitting shirt is so versatile.

Thanks for your input Angie! I would want to wear it on its own too, so I guess I should ask at my usual tailor how much the alteration would be.

Thanks Shannon! You're right, if the fit of the rest would have been off I wouldn't have kept it. But it's so hard to find button downs that fit my shoulders and hips, so that's a great thing. I also think this would be really versatile.

A similar method could be used to sew back darts, just pinching a cm or two can make a shirt look much more slimming.

I think the added waist definition in #3 works really well for you. You have a very youthful look and the tailoring helps to add (can't think of a good word so will use the wrong one) to the more adult than teen look.

I hope that makes sense. I think it is really cute and will also work with a skirt tucked better after alteration.
