K/R - Boden striped shirt - YouLookFab Forum

My Boden order arrived today! The cord skirt didn't work out, it's way too short and the colors aren't as pictured but much warmer. It definitely goes back. But I also ordered a striped shirt with dropped shoulder seams and I love the fit and the fabric is great too. It has a good length to wear with pants. I definitely need more nice tops with some interesting detail just like this, but I'm unsure about the color. Maybe it's too soft with the light grey and the off white? They also have it in a classic navy and in red. Should I return the grey one and order one of the others? Or keep the grey and order another color additionally?

I also thought about ordering the shirt in #4 and the skirt in #5. Both are on sale. Do you think one of these has potential?

(And maybe I should stop buying stripes...)

I love stripes too, and I love the dropped shoulder detail! I would probably be tempted to order the navy one too, but that is based on what's in my closet I think the grey is pretty casual but the navy could be dressed up a bit.
I am not crazy about either #4 or #5.

Thanks Jules! I don't have a classic navy striped shirt, so maybe I really should order the navy one too. The navy would be a sure bet, I think. What I like about #4 is the color, this cool minty green is great and you don't see it that often in the stores and I like boatnecks on myself. I think I won't order #5, maybe it's a bit too sweet.

I love the grey shirt and think it will get lots of use in the fall and winter. I say keep

I like this on you - a lot! I also like the neutrality of the colors. I think it will end up being quite versatile then - for toppers, scarves, different bottoms. I like the easy fit of it too.

So, I'd consider getting the navy stripe also for the times when you want a bolder top.

I'm okay with #4, but don't know your current LS stripe inventory I love 'em but wouldn't want my entire non-solid top selection to be stripes!

I' not so fond of the skirt, but I'm raely fond of florals, so take that FWIW. . .

Thanks Sara! I think you're right, the grey is versatile. I think I'll keep it. I have two striped LS shirts, the ones below, and I wear them often. But I have other patterned tops besides stripes, plaids and other geometric patterns and polka dots. I thought to get the floral skirt for the upcoming holiday to wear with a denim jacket or vest, but I'm not sure about it either. I just love those swishy summer skirts when it's warm, but the pattern on this one might be too girly.

My first instinct is to tell you to order all the colors. Lol! The shirt fits you beautifully and this kind of top is versatile - in that you can dress it up or down depending on the circumstances. But for the sake of your wallet, I vote to keep the grey and order the navy as well.

Hmm, then #3 would be different from your two in that it's a soft overall color and has no colorblocking. It would probably layer more nicely under denim jacket without the colorblocking.

I'd probably get it if it's not too expensive, and if you think it's a color (can't tell if its green or grey) that can be useful for fall/spring (and winter?), and if it turns out to fit just as nicely!

I like the cut and shape of this top for you, Astrid. The drop shoulder extends your shoulders, which is balancing. I'd say get the navy, too.

I don't think the mint top will do the same thing as this one, due to the different cut, and also, you won't wear mint as much through the winter.

As for the skirt, I think it is too sweet.

Thanks Kimlee! I have to think of my wallet that's true! It's not expensive, but not cheap either. I just had a look and the grey doesn't seem to work well with a lot of my things, the color is somehow off. I think I'm going to return that one too and order the navy instead.

Sara, I think I'll order the LS one for the grey one. It's also a soft look, but the color might be better. It's a greyish minty green on my screen, I hope it looks the same IRL.

Thanks Suz! I agree, the skirt is too sweet. It's true that the cut of the mint isn't as interesting. Maybe I should save my money and just order the navy instead?

I cannot see the picture of the skirt anymore.
I would say keep the grey(it will work great with your colored pants ) and search for other kind of shirts without stripes.

I know all of you liked it, but the grey goes back (it looks nice with the shorts, but doesn't work with most other items, the grey and cream is just too warm toned). It's just too much money to keep it anyway and I said I wanted to pay more attention to color from now on. But I ordered the navy instead and I think that one will definitely be a great and versatile color.

I vote keep! Regarding the top in #4, I have it in blue stripe and it seems to run rather big. I bought it off ebay where it was advertised as UK 10, but the size tag says 8. I am usually a UK 10 or 12 on top, but it fits perfectly.

Edit: sorry, I didn't read the rest of the thread before replying; if it doesn't play along nicely in your wardrobe, then I revoke my keep vote.

Too funny! I went shopping at JOE yesterday, found a great striped tee, loved the fit, bought two. It wasn't until I got home that I remembered this thread and realized it might be a knock off. The shoulders are more dropped on me than they look in the pic. I bought it in grey/black and burgundy/orange.
Wearing the black and grey today with new SKINNIES! My first pair. Also an Astrid/youlookfab inspired purchase.

Oh wow, these look great! I can't believe I inspired you to buy some skinnies, that's awesome. Even more so because I'm not sure they inspire me myself. I'm sure you're rocking the look!
