K/R -- Pro or Con? - YouLookFab Forum

So, I'm tiptoeing into the fashionable sneaks territory, and it's an alien land. I'm a Keds girl by nature, but am working to avoid twee at all costs this summer, and that is a danger with the iconic white Keds, particularly with Taylor-Swift-loving preteens wearing them with their skater skirts. Adorbs on them, not so much on mature adult me.

So........ here are some classic Cons. Comfy, but, um, my feet look LONG. Also, I'm a little unsure about the high vamp and my curvy calves. Looking for feedback from one and all!

I've included a post of some new polka dot slipper flats from Target. I'm leaning toward keeping these for sure. I like the slim, but tailored shape and the freshness of dots in a classic color with neutral brown trim. Playful, but grown up.

I've sized up a little in these, so I can wear a simple insert. Best idea ever!

So, I think your feet look fine, however, the all white shoe does make them look longer. I wear a size 9 shoe, and I find the classic cons that are two toned Cons do the same thing as cropped pants - they shorten them.

I like the Cons! I used to be a Keds girl too but since I wore them in high school many many moons ago, I thought it was time to move on. I know what you mean about the long foot syndrome. I have size ten feet and when I first started sporting Cons I thought I looked like a runaway circus performer!

Well, I persevered and now I love them. I've included a photo of the ones I have. By the way, did you get to the Coach sale?

Sveta: I envy your shoe collection, and I know you work to find the fit and quality! At 9 1/2, my feet are on the large side, but I'm grateful that my size is relatively easy to find. I have peasant feet, really, a little wide and big (no Italian pointy toes -- which I can't afford anyway), but strong and not fussy.

I did not see long feet at all, even though you mentioned it and I tried to look for them. Actually I really like the whole outfit, except the picture is a bit dark! And I think the polka dot slipper shoes are definite keepers too!

Thanks, Shevia! Yes, the picture was problematic, because of the western sun shining in through the window of my only spot to snap photos! I had to change my clothes mid-afternoon because, despite the sunshine, it was just too cold (33 F) to be without boots! Sigh. Spring will come!

I read your post, and thought, Gee, if you don't love them on you, no need to chase a trend that doesn't feel like "you."
And then I saw the photos. . . . Wow--you look sooooo cool in those sneaks! They are totally you. You are rocking them! If you feel self-conscious in them, I agree you might try another color than white (personally, I love the look of white shoes but can never adjust to their look on my own feet--so I can empathize if that's what you're feeling). But don't give up on them--please?? I like Keds, too, but the Converse are way more hip, IMHO. Love, love how you've styled them with the BF jeans, striped top, semi-tuck.
I like them better than the slipper flats, but those are cute, too. To me, those are an updated version of the Keds vibe--a little more streamlined and feminine. You could have both and not be duplicating (if that's even an issue).

Thanks, Firecracker! I wanted to try the Cons for their more updated vibe. I love them on others, but worry about looking like a "poser." And you absolutely write(lol, I mean right) that the slipper flats are a sleeker version of a Ked --- as a matter of fact, the exact pattern is available in the traditional oxford too. I like the silhouette of a slipper flat on my leg.

They look great! I find that I need to wear new sneakers with long pants/jeans for a while first while I adjust to how they look with shorter pants - try that if you are still unsure!

I'm loving the Cons, too! You look so fab, please keep. White Cons are on my wishlist, particularly if I get to the US this year.

Your feet look fine in the Cons, but I can relate to those feelings of "wow, just look at those size 10 feet sticking out there". I think it's partially due to the angle; unlike the rest of the world, we see our feet from the top, not the side or front. But, personally, my white Cons sat in my closet until I put them in the donate bin because I just couldn't get past that reaction whenever I tried to wear them.

If you think you can train your eye and your mind, then go for the Cons. But, if you aren't sure, then there are lots of other casual footwear choices out there.

Gaylene, you make a good point about how we "feel" about an item. I bought these with lots of discounts at Kohl's because I'd been unsure. I think my plan is to play with these this Summer and see what the happiness factor is. Dipping my little toe in the trend, and seeing how the water feels!

Both super! Although like Gaylene if you feel your eye wont adjust they could become an orphan. Of course... You could always paint them later if the white just seems too long after an adjustment period. Both great choices!
