K/R -- Expensive bag options that I don't need

Or do I? This year I have been obsessed with finding a bag that would match my Acnes which I purchased last fall. As the light neutral color wasn't much available in the fall, I started looking again in the Spring. As soon as I got emails that some of these bags had been reduced, I ordered them. Now or never right?

Shown with what I was wearing yesterday, just jeans and a tee. BTW is anyone still wearing boyfriend jeans? I am! With last year's patchwork fringe trend, I thought it would take off but it didn't.

1. Alexander Wang Mini Marti backpack in nude. Nice leather makes the bag heavier but might not be as good a match as the other two choices.

2. Alexander Wang Mini Marti in khaki nylon with leather trim. Lighter than the leather version (easier to keep clean?). The khaki is darker than the booties but I still think, a good match.

3. The dressier, structured 3.1 Phillip Lim Bianca bag. This bag is black and tan, which is matchy heaven!

You look awesome in those jeans and tee, and I'm still wearing boyfriend jeans for sure.

My personal preference is the cross-body for it's clean lines, but that's pretty much based on my own warm feelings about cross-bodies and love of occasional matchy. Backpacks can be super useful if they fit well and hold the stuff you want to carry around, and soft leather ones feel nice.

I love the Philip Lim bag and the matchy-matchy fabness of it. And I am one who is still wearing and loving my boyfriend jeans -- especially the patched ones. I do not even care if anyone else is wearing them.

Love those jeans! I like the backpacks better with this outfit. Love the Phillip Lim bag, though, and it might prove to be a more versatile bag overall.

I'm an outlier, I very much like the mismatch cool tone neutrals of the canvas backpack. I also think it's a better fit for your predominantly casual lifestyle.

Yes, I am wearing my boyfriends, I love the ease of them.

I am voting:

1. Phillip Lim -- but only if it works for your needs/ lifestyle. I think the backpack is a better casual option.

2. Canvas backpack. I agree with Jules, above.

3. Leather backpack.

And yes, I still wear my BFs!! I don't wear my TR Camerons all that often but still kept them because I love how they feel. They might come out on summer evenings now and again. I wear the Rag and Bone Dres a bit more often as they are a slimmer fit.

I understand what the others mean about the fabric casualizing the backpack, but I think the backpack style is inherently casual enough that I like the way the leather makes it a bit more sophisticated.

The backpack and the cross body are such different bags I have trouble excluding one or the other -- they serve different purposes, to my mind. I think the cross body is more versatile (can dress it up more than a backpack) so I stand by my original opinion.

Those patchwork jeans are so fab on you. I still wear bf jeans but they're not terribly boyfriendy these days -- more like easy skinnies.

Thanks everyone, good comments. The leather backpack is not as good a color match as the other two bags, but am I overthinking that point? The leather backpack is a warmer/pinker nude than the booties, which may not show up very well in the poor quality photos.

My vote is #3 followed by #2. Yes I am wearing my boyfriends. I like the looseness for warm/hot days so they will see lots of action this summer unless it is really a hot season.

I'm wearing BF jeans too and have no intention of stopping. Although we're now out of jeans weather here so we'll see what the mood is come September. I really love the Philip Lim - hands down the best look with your boots here, but it sounds like it might be too prim and proper for your needs/look. The backpacks are cool - have you ever used one on a day-to-day basis? Curious. I had a leather one last year and sold it here on the forum - too clumsy and heavy and never sat right on my shoulder.

Prefer the Phillip Lim bag because it can be used casually as well as for more dressy occasions. I'm wondering about the size though. Will it work as well for you as the backpacks? Like Janet, I see the backpack style as casual no matter what the material so I think my preference would be for leather, unless you think the weight will make a considerable difference comfort wise.

I like all the bags but see a backpack as very different to the shoulder bag. I have a sporty backpack which I like for walking days, sports watching, and the odd athletic look. It can be a pain getting in and out of it though. A handbag looks much dressier, but this one would fit a lot less in.

I would think about when you will use the bag, what you need to fit in it, and go from there. When do you wear the boots- shopping, driving trips, city excursions, visiting a friend?

I'm not sure of either of the backpacks:(. But I do like the cross body. Would it work for you tho? I find bags that size tricky because unlike to carry so much stuff!

I was hesitant to post because when it comes to bags I have a hard time being objective and I feared enabling.

I think Kiwigal/Sally said it best. Which bag will best meet your needs.

Having said that, number 1 is my favorite of the three.

I like them in reverse order of your post! Not sure I could tell the pedigree of the backpacks from say Kipling at a glance, so I wouldn't splurge on such an item. They are probably way better seen up close.

I just bought those patchwork Mother BFs so I'm a big yes.

Well, I like 1, but it fills a different hole. I prefer the canvas over leather because of colour and weight.

Of the backpacks, I prefer the non-leather one (no 2) for mostly practical reasons. I think no 1 would get filthy really fast (The colour and material are not the best for a sporty/everyday bag like a backpack). I also have a slight preference for the colour of no 2. I like the cross body too but it's such a different style is really a question of which style you think you would find more useful.

I love the look of the Philip Lim but feel we are comparing apples to oranges because it is so different in function than a backpack. And I am wearing my boyfriends, but they fit like skinnies now. Alas.

I'm not a huge fan of backpack handbags (because my posture is crap) or of stylish small bags (because I carry a lot of crap).

I have those same boots in dark green. I think you could get a bag in a nude or blush color, maybe leather not suede, that would still look good with the boots. And for night out with those boots a small structured gold-ish metallic.

I have a personal fondness for large tote bags that I can carry a huge amount of stuff in even though I am a person on the smaller side like you and can look overpowered by large bags (like today going to Alice Through the Looking Glass I was smuggling a water bottle and a pound of starburst and a pound of twizzlers into the movie theater that sells only five year old candy and nasty old popcorn).

Like Una, my preference is in reverse order of the pics. But they're all fabulous bags. And I am still wearing -- and LOVING -- my BF jeans. I'm on the hunt for another pair, in fact.

In Maine it's jean season until August, and then jeans are back in September! So almost year-round.

Tough call on these - the cross body matches really well but is very different in style by comparison, and I'm not totally sure if you want to go that style direction. I think #1 looks great but #2 looks good too so maybe it's a matter of budget and care concerns?
