Kohl's Finds: Shopping in Misses

I'd never had luck with clothes at Kohl's but thanks to some clean living I'm starting to ooze out of the Plus Size and into Misses. Wow - much better experience! I went shopping last week and made some fun purchases and of course was thrilled that I could shop in the misses department just for the selection. Feedback and styling ideas welcome!

#1: Brown elastic belt - I don't have any wide belts and I liked how it looked with the outfit I had on.

#2: A faux wrap dress (in Misses XL, not plus- the joy!). I wouldn't wear it with the black tights, but that's what I had on when I got home.

#3: Denim Jacket - I'd been wanting a fitted denim jacket to replace my too big boxy one. This one was a deal, and of all things I liked the L better than the XL because it gave me more of a waist, but still fit my arms and shoulders fine. (Insert head explosion here.)

Also - a white purse (from the Elle line). I've been wanting a white purse (I credit you all), and am a little worried about upkeep because I'm hard on things. This one wasn't too expensive, but I like the lines - sort of a balance between team structured and unstructured. I'm still debating whether to keep it or splurge and get a real leather bag. Thoughts? Experience with this brand?

#4: Bonus pic of the dress and purse - I figure the purse helps make up for the black tights :-).

I adore that dress on you! It fits you beautifully and is very flattering I love when you add the white purse and black denim jacket over it too Very stylish spring/summer outfit for you. Congrats on the 'clean living' and fun results from it!!

ETA: White purses get grubby no matter what they are made of (well, at least any that are around me do), and this is one area where I am willing to spend less, get non-leather, etc. It won't hold up as well as leather, but grubby white leather isn't worth holding onto IMHO. If it is some sort of vinyl I am free to sue any checmicals to clean off dirt, denim rub, stray pen marks, etc. Otherwise I'm practical enough that I'll lean toward a patent leather for keeping it clean longer.

What a fun belt and an amazing dress on you! I love the floral print--looks like something you can wear for spring and fall. Glad you are enjoying the fruits of clean living. You look so happy with your new purchases! I really like the white bag but honestly have never owned one. I'm thinking it's wise to try it out in a less expensive version : )

MaryK: I think it could pass for leather - it's a bit thinner than leather would normally be but otherwise it looks nice, I think.

The dress is very nice for you. The print and shape are perfect.

I like the purse for summer but always prefer real leather... usually you can pick up the real thing for not much more than plastic at a discounter like Marshall's or TJMaxx if there are any in your neighborhood.

The clothes are all faaaaab! Love the denim jacket particularly. As for the bag, I side with modgrl. If you are hard on your bags, leather is the way to go. Especially now with the miracle magic eraser to clean up light colored bags. You'd get better durability for a similar price at Marshall's, TJMaxx, or even Ebay.

I love all of them, you look great! I saw some real leather bags and I had to double take to see if they are actually leather (and I did the smell test too). And it was from some designer that I can't remember. So the real leather look a little plastic-y nowadays, especially if they try to make it a bit shimmery with the metallic look.

Rae: great tip onto the magic eraser. Have some but hadn't thought of that.

Khris: love the "Shrinkng out of a size range!". I'm just on the border ( and no where near for pants) and it's a great motivator.

I decided to return the bag. I looked it over again and there's one trim element I think looks cheap. I'll either troll the discount stores for a leather purse as Rae and Modgirl suggested, or go ahead and buy the Coach I've been eying.... It's funny, I have some PVC purses that are frankly PVC and love them, but plastic that pretends to be leather is more questionable to me.

Congratulations on your size-down! The fantastic part of this is you already know to dress your 'new' body and that's a fabulous step (to me anyway) . You look awesome in your new dress!!

You look gorgeous, well done! All items look like good purchases. I'd try out the non-leather bag. Whenever I check out leather bags at my local TJ Maxx, the leather bags I like are well over $100.

I like the new dress. Very fresh and springy, and a lovely silhouette on you. Here's my two cents' worth on the bag. My husband convinced me many years ago to invest in one nice bag that I keep for years instead of a cheap bag that I replace every six months or a year. It was very painful the first time I spent more than $100 on a bag, but I generally heed this advice, unless I am buying something fun and trendy.
