Knock offs and fakes ... what if you buy one by accident? :(

I've had this cute necklace from F21 for months and months ($4.80); but today when cruising the Kate Spade selection on Zappos ($130-or so), something looks familiar, doesn't it?

Now I'm not sure how I feel about my purchase; but everything at F21 feels like it could possibly be a knock off of someplace else, sometimes ...

Should I stop using mine?

I wouldn't stop wearing it - it's not like it has fake logos on it or anything. I think it's cute and whimsical.

It's sweet...I wouldnt feel bad wearing it. I dont think there is anything wrong with someone selling a similar looking item (inspired by a designer) for a more accessible price...it's way different than trying to pass it off *as* that designer's item, by putting fake names/logos on it....

What biscuitsmom said. I think knockoff is different than a fake that implies it is the original. It's approachable and affordable for the real people like us so why not? Who knows, maybe Kate Spade saw your F21 glasses necklace and was inspired to maker hers? It COULD happen.

I'm not convinced that KS was even the original brand to think this up. I've seen the style a lot - I say keep wearing!

First off, Lyn, I LOVE that you feel this way about it. I really hate copyright and trademark infringement.

In my expert legal opinion ( as a SAHM - LOL ) I say this is not one of those times. Designs and ideas trickle down all the time. And that is what F-21 does. They take ideas and mass market them cheaply. ( Think about all the similar dresses that pop up the morning after the Oscars...)

F-21 did not try to pass this off as a Kate Spade, so there is honesty in that. I also think that Kate Spade wasn't the one who came up with the eyeglasses on a chain idea either. I am much older than you...and this has been around a really long time. Longer than Kate.

I think it's fine! I thought you'd bought a falsely advertised fake on e-bay or something. People StyleWatch openly shows you a designer look and how to score the same look with knockoffs... otherwise we'd all go broke.

Thank you all - I guess as a kid I used to wear my glasses on a chain too. And wear cardigans. LOL. How can you tell my style icon was my Grade 3 teacher?

I like the necklace - some people tell me really silly things when I wear it like ... "Do those fit on your face?" (the glasses are as long as my thumb). or ... "Is that for your dog?" (yes, my dog is nearsighted?)
