We've just celebrated King's Day (formerly known as Queen's Day) here in the Netherlands. There are parties all over the country, but of course it's best in Amsterdam.

Part of the tradition is that everyone empties out their house and sells their junk on the street, so the city turns into a huge garage sale. My pro-tip for the day is to get up early and head for the famous Nine Streets, where the trendy boutiques are often turning out their store rooms. I've found some amazing bargains this way.

This was not my plan this year, but things being what they are I ended up in that patch anyway. I probably missed some of the best deals, but I came away with a few treasures nevertheless.

Most Unlikely Find: a pair of wooden geta sandals from Osaka denim pioneers Evisu, Already in service around the house - fun and cute with tabi socks. €5.00

Wildest Card (or Demna Gvasalia Made Me Do It): a pair of Juicy Couture velour track pants. I'm not sure what I should say about this, except I needed lounge pants and they're nicer than I was expecting. Unworn but I think they've been in the store cupboard for a while. Cool pocket details. €5.00

Best/Worst Buy: wide leg linen pants from last season, BNWT, priced higher than thrift but still on deep discount, far less than they're listed on Yoox. I'm slightly kicking myself for this because I made a quick decision and didn't judge the fit properly. These gorgeous pants need transformative surgery to make them wearable, but it's not like I've never altered a pair of trousers before €40.00
