Hi there! First, I must apologize for my sporadic participation on the forum. Who would have thought that life as empty nesters would be so busy! The good news is that we are enjoying this new phase of our lives and having a ball.

My DD, who goes by Kindrex on the forum, would like your help. She has class tonight and asked if I could post a question on her behalf.

She will be home this weekend for a wedding and will be wearing this vintage dress. She is looking for suggestions for shoes and accessories. It's a late afternoon wedding held at a local country club. The ceremony will be outside on the terrace, with cocktails and reception to follow inside.

Suggestions on how to style?

What a pretty dress! I think she could pull any colour out of the dress for shoes.

Oh, the dress is absolutely stunning! And she will be gorgeous in it. (I remember a vintage dress of hers from a few years ago, shortly after I joined the forum.)

First off, is she going to need a topper with this? Does she have one?

Does she want to modernize the look a bit, or go all out vintage?

For a slightly modernized take, how about a large silver clutch, black, cobalt, or even mint pointy toed pumps, and silver jewellery?

Suz is spot-on, IMO. I personally would lean toward cobalt shoes to match the accents in the dress, although almost any other colour, including nude, would work. And I like the idea of vintage-inspired, silver/white metal jewelry, either with or without accent stones that coordinate or play off the dress.

If she needs or will wear a topper, I would go cobalt on the top and nude shoes. She wouldn't want to be too matchy-matchy with both.

Suz, I think she may need a topper since ceremony is outside and we are still having some cool days here in Virginia. I'm not sure what she has, but I do know that she has a cropped tuxedo jacket that I gave her a year ago. It's black though. Would that be too dark for a Spring wedding. I'll try to find a photo of it.

I think she wants to modernize it with accessories rather than go all out vintage, but I can't be sure.

I think it could work with this light dress, assuming proportions are right. Absolutely! She won't have it on all night anyway if she is dancing. Then I would go with cobalt shoes...or sci-fi silver and a cobalt clutch.

Suz, excellent suggestions! She's coming home tomorrow night, so we'll have a few days to shop. I found an image of her tux jacket. She also has a trench.

What a lovely dress, Debora! I'm dress-challenged, but I think that silver, green, or cobalt shoes (or nude) would be lovely. The black jacket does seem a bit dark to me. What about a white jacket?

I think champagne coloured shoes could work. And a white jacket. LOVE that black one, though...but if she wants to lighten up or make things feel fresh, then black might not be best.

Maybe she needs this one. And it comes in every colour she might consider! A bit pricey, mind you!! And possibly not the right cut.

But as long as we are playing dress up...here's another.

Angie, oh good! She was wondering about champagne. She will be a bridesmaid in a wedding this fall and was hoping she could find a pair that would work for both. I try and post a pic of her in the dress later this week after she gets here.

Suz, those jackets are amazing. I'm pretty sure though that mama won't spring for one!

ETA: I wouldn't mind one for myself, though.

Sarah, I'm pretty sure I saw a cropped cobalt jacket not too long ago at Nordstrom's. And it was in the dress section, too, which leads me to believe that they meant for it to go with dresses. I'll have to check and see if they are still there. Thanks!

Hello, thank you all for your help! I've been running around like a madwoman trying to wrap up work and school responsibilities before I hop a plane home tonight, so I greatly appreciate your wonderful tips and advice. I'll certainly take them to heart, and will look forward to some quality shopping time with my momma when I'm on vacation this week. I'll try to follow up with pics once the outfit is complete!

You are off to a great start with all the incredible suggestions you have
gotten here.
I'm coming out of hiding again to say that I think the dress would look fab with
strappy champagne sandals, a nude pedicure and a large envelope clutch in royal blue. For jewelry I would add long swingy earring, no necklace and
an arm stacked with bangles.
Beyond that I wouldn't worry too much about the covering piece. Your Mumma probably has something that would be suitable for the short time that
you'll need it.
Have fun knowing that you look fab in your vintage dress.
Can you dish about where you found it? I'm trying to guess the era. 80"s

Lots of great advice already provided. I'd just like to chime in that if you don't have a suitable clutch, now would be the perfect time to audition that trend.

I see a metallic shoe and bag. Also a warm nude would work nicely. The dress is astonishing.

By the way, Little Zap will be joining Kindrex's alma matter in the fall:)
We searched far and wide, yet she ended up five subway stops away, ha!

Jenniferblue, I love all your suggestions. A nude pedicure would look awesome with champagne sandals. I can see a large envelope clutch with it. Kindrex is winging her way here as we speak, and she will chime in later with the story behind the dress. There's ALWAYS a story!

Noooo... This is fantastic. Yes, they have to meet! She is ecstatic about it. She went to the admitted students event last weekend and came out saying that her search was over. I have not seen her so happy in weeks.

Zap, how wonderful it is when they finally commit and are happy with their choice. It's such a huge relief all around! I'm trying to figure out which of Kindrex's alma maters little Zap will be attending, but I think I've figured it out. Yay and a huge congratulations to little Zap!
