Khaki Lafayette 148 dress...too neutral or just right?

I am always on the hunt for hot weather dresses that are comfortable and easy to move in, so I'm giving this Lafayette148 dress a try. I had eyed it earlier in the season, but it was too pricey. It just dropped to 50% off so I pulled the trigger.

Pros: 1) It's super comfortable (no waistband!), great quality, and a perfect fit. 2) It's sort of a cross between a sheath and sack dress, so it will be cool and comfy when temps hit 90+ degrees. 3) It has pockets! 4) It appeals to my instinct to buy better quality items. I feel very femme d'un certain age in this simple classic dress.

Cons: 1) Because of its waist-surrendering sack shape, it isn't the most figure-flattering dress. 2) I'm worried it's a little boring and maybe too neutral (even though I love neutrals!).

What's the fabric and is it washable? I love it on you for an easy summer look. You could easily change it up with your accessories. White shoes or bag would be great.
Confession - I just bought something very similar in a natural linen and I love the crumply Eurochic look of it on suburban moi :-).

Thanks, Thistle. And I have to add that it's not a terrible khaki color (the dreaded soul-sucking beige) but a lighter-than-usual khaki that is a good warm color for me.

I agree with missvee--this is a "blank canvas" dress, meaning it's got huge potential for taking on accessories to create loads of interesting looks. I really like it.

I love dresses like this one because they are both practical and chic. As Mochi says, it is a "blank canvas" on which you can put your personal stamp. IMO, these kinds of dresses are much harder to find than the show stoppers, so I'd give it serious consideration.

Love it! The zipper and high neck are fresh details, as are the pockets. I vote keep. I like the color on you; it complements your skin and hair tones so nicely.
You could try belting it for a different look (on cooler days). I imagine it will be a workhorse with different accessory options.

POLYURETHANE? Does that make it hot and a lot less breathable? You certainly look MUCH better in that dress than the Nordstrom model. They should replace her with a picture of you! But then, they would have sold out on the dress and you wouldn't have been able to buy it at a discount.

You can wear that color and it flatters you, so keep it! But I'm thinking of Angie's color - pattern - texture - shine formula, so I'm craving a little drama here in terms of accessories or shoes. Would that make this too hot?

Donna, you are too sweet...and never fear! It's 97% cotton/3% poly so I think I'll be ok. And I promise I'll accessorize it to make it more interesting.

I just showed it to Mr. NL and he approves. "It does look better in real life than in the photos...less baggy," he says.

This will be a workhorse. I might try it with bright accessories. Cobalt or turquoise or coral sandals, cuff -- something like that. Or go super natural with cognac or dark tan or black.

I think the shape looks very sophisticated on you and if anything concerns me is the color - the photo on my monitor is just not clear enough to get a good sense of it. But if the color is good, keep!

I think this is lovely! It's SO neutral that there are endless possibilities for styling. I think a touch of red would look great also.

Thanks, everyone! As soon as I put it on it felt right. It really is MUCH more flattering IRL than in these photos, and the color isn't your usual khaki/beige.
This will be a timeless keeper, methinks.

Oh yes, it looks WAY better on you than the model. It looks like the sort of thing you can just throw on and go when you don't have time to decide what to wear. It will look like a completely different dress each time depending on what you put with it. I've tried a few "safari dresses" with that in mind, but I can never find one that fits right. Enjoy it!
