Kelly tries Classic Fall Casual

To say that I'm obsessed with capsules is an understatement. I've been trying to put together one based on Angie's "One Capsule, Many Outfits: Casual Outfits for Fall" blog post--with very little success. So today, I took a break and spent a little time on the "Classic Fall Casual" instead. I snapped a few pics of my faves. I think the Cons are a great way to update the boot cuts. I'm really excited to get them back in rotation

My question: Do you think the pieces look current enough? Suggestions for improvement welcome.

Whether the pieces look current enough is hard for me to tell, but I do know that you look incredibly fresh and fab to my eye! I love all iterations, and the bootcuts are just great.

There is no room for improvement. These look perfect. Fab pieces, fab colourway, YLF.
I guess you could scrunch the sleeves if that's your style.
I am a bit obsessed with capsules too, (bashful blush) but my approach is a little different. I am focussing on each of my skirts/pants, taking each one, one at a time, and building a capsule based on that.
Narrowing the exercise in that way has made it manageable for me.

Love it! The only one I'm not crazy about is #3. For the others, you could also add a fun scarf into the mix. My fav is #2, it's an outfit combo I wear often with straight legged jeans - I just bought a pair of bootcuts last night, and I can't wait to take them out for a spin!

These are some of your best. Your look great in the crisp white with darks. Love the color blocked top. The mix of neutrals and textures is fab.

Great capsule, Kelly! Love em all! For #3, I wonder how it would look to button just the top button and scrunch the sleeves?

These look perfectly modern classic to my eye. The leather moto does serve as the little bit of "edge" that I'm accustomed to from you, but most of these looks are more polished casual classic. They lack nothing to my eye, but if, and only if, you miss the bit of "edge," you can create it with a strong accessory, perhaps some tucking or semi-tucking.

Love the bootcuts on you. The fact that they are looser than the painted-on versions are years past makes them look very current.

These look great! I especially like how the white blouse adds crispness to the outfits. As far as how current the pieces look, I am not 100% sure about the cut of the blazer in #3. But honestly, if I saw you wearing this outfit on the street, I would just think "what a great outfit", rather than dissect the individual pieces.

Thanks, Everyone. I’m pleased that these work. I was worried that the “modern” would be lost in translation since these are all things that I’ve had for awhile. I wasn’t sure that I could even make this capsule but it turns out that I had almost everything except for the trench. (My trench is my raincoat and is probably one of the oldest things I wear. Pretty sure that needs replacing at some point.)

@Lantana: Thank you. I like your approach for capsules--only I need to look at a recipe. I’m not so good at winging it. I hope you share your capsules--I bet I could learn a lot from your too.

@Nova: Thanks! I haven’t worn these more than a handful of times in the last few years. I’m actually looking forward to wearing them now. So glad I didn’t purge!

@Karie: Thanks! I thought about a scarf but couldn’t find one that worked. My black/white clashed with the cream of the stripes. I’m going to have to work on that piece!

@BethAnn: Thanks! I love the scrunch but as the temps cool, I’m more likely to wear things full length. Great suggestions on adding edge. I usually add it with footwear but right now that’s not an option. I will try the semi tuck but honestly, I had a hard time pulling that off with button downs. (I look like I rushed out of the house without finishing getting dressed!)

@Makrame: Thanks! I think the grey BF blazer looks kind of boxy but I like the masculine vibe of it. Glad the overall look works.

@Angie: Thank you. Your capsule posts are exactly what I’ve been needing to make sense out of my closet! I love the simplicity of this ensemble and love the use of the boot cuts/straight legs. I have a black trench and will give it a try next week but I fear that is dated. I’d love a trench but after reading all of the myriad K/R trench posts, I find the search a little daunting!
