Keep/return tops - YouLookFab Forum

Hi all,

Did some online shopping and am wondering what to keep - if any!

Summer hasn't really arrived here so I'm looking beyond that now, for tops that can work all year round. Would be great to hear your thoughts on these! Always appreciate honest thoughts

Sorry, pics are not great, no shoes or styling - just quick shots in the evening! Smudges from a sticky 16-month-old on the mirror

#1 dark blue with birds
#2 profile
#3 burgundy red
#4 profile
#5 white floral
#6 profile
#7 ok one summery sleeveless top
#8 already purchased, dark blue top

All long sleeve tops will mostly be worn with grey jeggings (the ones in the pics, like jeans but no zipper) or black skinnies. All sleeves can be rolled down, but I quite like having them not full length so will probably mostly wear them like this.

My thoughts:
As I have the top in #8 I think #1/2 might be too similar, though I like it.

I like #3/4 but it feels a bit pyjama-like, I think maybe because of the neckline?

#5/6 is my favourite. What do you think? Only thing is that I'd prefer it to be even longer as I'll wear it with jeggings. I think it works but it's on the verge...

#7 was quite cheap so I think I'll keep it, can be nice with a simple light top for summer!

#8 was just to show what I already have, as it's quite similar to #1/2.

#5/6 is my favorite too, along with #7. You look great in white!

I agree something doesn't quite work with #3/4--something about that collar.

Just saw the part about the jeggings. The amount of butt I like to having showing in jeggings is zero, so for me the beautiful white top wouldn't work.

I looked at the pics first without reading your commentary and was immediately struck with how nice the burgundy one looked on you. Especially from the side: it is flowy enough to hang beautifully over the leggings like a tunic. The colour is really flattering, too. After reading your comments about the pyjama thing, I looked at the photos again, and could still see a lovely tunic.

Now, I am really really picky about the length of tops I wear with leggings,, so please disregard this if you're not as fussy. However, 1-2 seems a bit narrow in the side view, I think it will catch on your leggings and pull up, irritating you in the process. I'd agree that 5-6 is onthe borderline from the back: it's probably a better top to wear with more structured jeans. I'd pass on it just because of my pickiness...

These jeggings have pockets in the back so they feel more like jeans than leggings, which is why I'm not too fussy about the back length. I'm more concerned of the front length as my tummy will "pout" in the pants if the top is too short... that's what I really liked about the burgundy in #3, so I'm glad you like it Kookaburra! I'm torn with that one...

#3-4 looks a bit overwhelming, did you try the size down?
I like #1 best, but that's just personal taste.

Thanks Momo and skylurker! I like the first one too but since I recently bought a dark printed top I thought maybe it'd be more fun with something else now...

I ordered them online but could order a size down in the burgundy..!

I love the print of number one, but it looks a bit snug for leggings in the side view. I think 5/6 is my next favorite.

My favorite is #1, along with the top you already have. I really like these necklines and colors on you.
I like the length and drape of the burgundy one, but like skylurker, I wonder if it might be a size too large. I also think if you don't feel comfortable with the design at the neckline, you may hesitate to wear it.
I think you also look good in the lighter tops. The tank is my least favorite neckline on you, but as you say, it's nice to have a summer top for hot days, and it's perhaps worthwhile to keep on hand for those days. The other light top is nice; I just prefer the darker ones--again, mainly for neckline, rather than color. I like the way a somewhat higher scoop, or especially that rounder neck with v opening in #1, brings the focus to your face.

I like 1 best. It's such a pretty print. I also thnk the burgundy is pretty.

I like 5 and I think it's wearable with leggings. It might be more wearable with other things too because it's not longer and is kind of a neutral, interesting, but still neutral.
I'm also liking 1 and while the print is similar the style is not. I especially like that the darkness is kind of broken up and made less flat by the print. Seems super wearable to me and the side view is about as good as it gets.

Isabel, you're right that the prints are different, and since one is long sleeve and the other short I will be able to wear them differently (for example the short sleeve with a cardigan), so they would both be useful. And the darker in #1 is longer than the light one in #5 so I'd be more comfortable in that with the jeggings...

Hm, so now I'm drawn to keeping the darker one anyway! So good to get different input from everyone. And I just found another rusty red blouse that looks really nice on another online shop which I've ordered, which could be instead of the burgundy... So hm, maybe the darker long sleeve and lighter short sleeve from here, and hoping for the rusty one from the other site..!

Thanks all for your input!! I very much appreciate it, and in the end decided to keep the first, the dark blue with bird print. I'm sure I'll get lots of wear from it!
