Keeping track of purchases

I have made my first purchase of 2016. New snow boots! I want to toss the Sorels that nearly killed me yesterday (ok, just killed my elbow), and my other snow boots are ancient (the sole is worn and the leather is stiff). Anyway I bought Sorel Joan of Arctic from REI. As a member I get 10 percent back, plus I was able to use a special promo dividend from a Yeti ice chest I bought in December.

As to keeping track: In Notes on my ipad, I just jotted down the price and was able to paste a picture of the purchase.

BTW, it's snowing again this morning!

I've long admired the Joan of Arctic boots and have been toying with buying them. I finally tried them but I just don't think they fit me that well so I'm looking for other options. As for keeping track of purchases, I started doing that a while ago but never kept it up so I deleted it. For me I find it most helpful to keep a list of items I need/want to purchase and that keeps me mostly on track from the start. I also use the Notes App on my phone/iPad/Mac to keep my list.

Colette, I ordered them online so we'll see. My killer Sorels fit fine, as do my really old ones, so I figured I had a good chance with fit.

As to keeping track, I hope I keep up with this. The easier the system, the better.

I also have a pair of Sorel Joan of Arctic Wedge booties that fit great so I was confused and disappointed that the taller II's didn't work for me. I'll keep my fingers crossed they work out for you.

Safety first! Lovely purchase and clever idea to use the ipad notes. Think I'll give that a whirl. I use an excel sheet and track and sum up on monthly basis, in the cell comments I includ ea wee description of the items. I've been using 'finds' to religiously capture pics of the purchases, then I create a collection of the entire year to have a visual.

Colette, I saw the sole of the wedges and I'm not sure they would work for me. Yes, fingers crossed.

I really love the look of these! Congratulations on a great purchase. We seem to have some weather coming so I might need to shop for snow boots myself pretty darn soon.

Viva, thanks. January is not a great time to shop for snow boots. If I had my druthers I would have ordered from Zappos and gotten them tomorrow. But Zappos' supply of Sorels with the herringbone sole was meager in my size. Fortunately I found my size and color at REI, but I won't get them for another week or so.

They look great JAileen. We are on the same page because I have decided to try tracking my purchases this year too. And I am also using the notes section in my phone. It's easy that way (I know I won't do it unless it's easy!). But I didn't know you could paste in a photo. I am definitely going to try that!

Brooklyn, thanks! I was mainly going for the sole and a greyish color and voila! this was it.

If it's not easy I know I'll start slacking off. The picture was from an email. I wonder how a regular photo will work?

Hmmm. I am trying to paste in a photo from my photo library and not having much luck. Admittedly I am IT challenged. I am sure there must be a way to do it.

Ok, I can paste in a big photo but not a small one. In your photo library click on the tiny icon which looks like a box with an arrow coming out the top. Then click on the photo. There should be a blue dot in the corner. Then click on copy in the bottom row of choices. Then go to notes and paste it. On my old phone I used to get asked the size of the photo. If I could do that I could make the photo little. I'm still looking into that.

Thanks but how do you paste it? I don't think I adequately described how IT challenged I am!

After following the directions above, then go to notes and click somewhere and some choices come up including paste. Then choose it.

Argh! The only options I get are select/select all. Don't worry J, I will get DH onto it. He is more techy than I am.

Great purchase. I have an old pair of Sorels and have been very happy with them. Very warm and great on ice. Yours look nice. Mine are plain black. Not so fancy.

I'm pleasantly distracted by the tech explanations here! I am admiring your method for tracking purchases. I may try this but I still think i will be pasting receipts into my calendar I have to use it for something! I still get free calendars that I feel obligated to put to use somehow!

Back to the boots, very nice! They look warm and most importantly stable! The snow looks pretty. We hardly have any, yet...... I purchased some Sorel Tivoli II boots for this winter. I struggled with them for the first week because they were uncomfortably tight around my ankle bones but I discovered that putting Superfeet arch support inserts lifted my foot just enough to bring my ankles to a point where the padding wasn't creating too much pressure.

Style Fan, thanks! I'm never going to wear the pair that tried to kill me. Plain black boots would have been fine with me, but I wear a lot of grey.

Staysfit, thanks! You guys got several years worth at once with the Vortex.
Last year we got a little snow in November and then none the rest of the season. It was scary because our drinking water comes from snow melt in the mountains. When they did their final snow survey in April, there wasn't any snow on the ground at all, just bare ground.
Regarding a system, I think whatever is easy and you keep up with, is best.
