I've got a few basic bead necklaces like this:

This is two strands of turquoise beads. I wear them either both looped twice (as shown to make 4 loops total) or both looped three times (to make a shorter necklace of 6 loops):

Not a great photo of the necklace but you get the idea. Over the day, though, I need to keep readjusting to reduce the garotte-effect as one strand always ends up round my neck... Once I've arranged them as I want I need something to hold the necklaces in place - I feel sure there must be something (either household or to buy) but don't know what I'm looking for. Does anyone else have this problem/have a solution??!! Thanks

I was going to suggest attatching a brooch of some sort but it looks like it might be a bit short for that to work x

Hmm. What if you had something to wrap around all the strands, behind your neck, to keep them from moving independently? If it wouldn't show, it could really be something as practical-yet-unattractive as a twist-tie, but if it won't be completely hidden, there might be an actual gadget for this job. If you have one of the big craft chain stores nearby, check out their bead section. They'll have lots of findings for jewelry-making and you may discover something that will work.

Good ideas. I've gone the low-end route and just used a safety pin to corral the strands of my wayward necklaces. It works because it hides behind my hair, but maybe it's time for a nicer alternative:)

Oh clever ideas all round here! bethw - yes of course that's an obvious low-tech one for me to try, while the pretty ribbon idea is a winner for the minimal effort combined with looking good. And I have so many scraps of ribbon saved for children's craft activities it would be no problem to find any colour I wanted!

These are all great ideas !!! I have the same problem, but once I fastened the strands together, they tend to spin and end up to the side or in front. So I use these ( you can attach them to the safety pin or the ribbon and it keeps the necklace in place. )

I absolutely love the ribbon idea! You could put the ribbon in the back, to use it as a clasp of sorts, or get a pretty one and put it on the front to give your strand a whole new look. You could even embellish your ribbon-bow with a small , lightweight rhinestone pin... I think I've got some vintage ones laying around, now that I think of it!
