Keep/Donate Blazers - YouLookFab Forum

I have been thinking about my 2013 style goals and without having them even complete I know after reading nancylee's post streamlining and bringing my closet up to date are needed. And getting it all in MY closet. No more storage in the guest bedroom closet! Would love your feedback.

1-2. White cotton quasi double breasted belted jacket, polyester lined. Dry clean. Worn 2 x in 4 years. Photo 2 - When would I ever wear this that I wouldn't prefer my new fab white leather or my functional actually double breasted GAP cotton peacoat? I am thinking donate.

3. Darkest Navy lightweight 100% silk two button jacket (Liz Claiborne). The suit pants that match are cut in a hopelessly outdated way so they are a donate. Since this has been my "interview" suit I havent worn it casually. But maybe I should start? It has a lovely drape and although it is LONG I think it is a keep to try styling for spring/summer? I am tempted to put on gold buttons for a real schoolboy blazer vibe? Thoughts?

4-5. Black poly rayon nylon something blend (Limited) 5 button jacket. The buttons are not exposed though they are under a placard which is why I have never worn this jacket buttoned up. I feel like it is okay open but nothing special. I am thinking donate?

I agree with you on all of these. I think #3 could maybe have some potential? Gold buttons would probably look good. Maybe belted? Or worn open over dresses/tunics?

I like your idea to repurpose and remix the navy blazer. I think longer blazers are making a comback, and I'm wearing mine over midi pencil skirts and with jeans (And I scrunched the sleeves).

I agree with you about all of these, Sarah. The navy looks like good quality and it makes sense to try to work with it and see what you can do.

Sarah yes I agree with your assessment. The Navy jacket could be worn boyfriend style. The shape and style look current and the fit looks good.

#3 looks like it is a bit big for you, though the style is good. Alterations, perhaps?

The white jacket is quite flattering but if you never wear it, it should go. I just sold some jeans I got last year; I was crazy about them last year. But this year, I wasn't wearing them so out they went.

The third jacket looks similar in the pictures to the second one. (Although probably different colors.) The second one, with a lower stance, looks more modern. I don't think long jackets are dated. I like long jackets, I got one last spring from Banana Republic with a similar cut.

I agree with your assessment. I would try to repurpose #2 and see if you wear it more. You can always donate later if it doesn't work. I would definitely donate #1. Wearing it twice in four years tells you that you aren't going to reach for it, especially not with your other choices.

I have a hard time with #3. Does it duplicate #2? I think you are right, though, that it is nothing special. Doesn't sound like you love it, so you probably won't reach for it.

I think the navy one is definitely worth working with. It has a nice fit on you and doesn't look dated.

I recommend donating the rest, which either aren't getting worn or are dated.

Thanks ladies! I am glad that my reasoning at least sounds sound. I think i will try styling the silk blazer in a few outfits and wear it for a few days before committing to spending the time/money on the replacing the buttons. If it plays nicely, then ill take that step!
