Keep or Toss: High Vamp Heels

I bought these heels ages ago. They are Ralph Lauren and very comfortable. Things have changed a lot since the early 2000's and I'm not sure I love how high the vamp is on these shoes. It is sort of hard to see in these pics, but it covers 1/3 of my foot.

They're a nice neutral, but I think the toes are too pointy to be current...rounded toes are more up to date...

Oh yeah, that was the other issue. The toe - really a narrow square toe - seems very dated.

Rosie, I think I agree with your urge to part with these. They do somehow seem dated to me. I am not sure I really get why either b/c in part, they are classics. But I think it is the toe box and higher vamp - and they do so remind me of things in the early 2000's when I was starting a career too. If you can bear it, I'd let them go.

Yeah, they do look a little dated, mostly because of the square too for me. But, maybe if you hang onto them for another 10 years, they'll be right back in style!

I vote toss. The square toe looks dated. The heel is too thick for today's stiletto yet not thick enough for the chunky heels in the stores now. Also the color is only ok. Make room for more fab shoes.

Haha, Shell. You're probably right, though! For now, I think you are all giving me the feedback I expected. Hmm...I wonder if NAS has any tan/nude heels on sale...

In my dream world I'd have a pair of Louboutins - Simple 525.

I like them and think they look classic. I also love the color. Comfortable shoes are hard to find. Ralph Lauren is a great shoe. I vote keep!

I am kind of torn. They are kind of classic but kind of dated by the toe box. Like Shell said, no doubt they will come back someday.

They are beautiful shoes. I agree that they look a bit dated right now, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that style come back around in the next 5 years or so. If you have space to hold on to them, I would.

I am with Jean, They look very classic to me and would look extra fab peeking out of a black pr. of ppl full legged pants

I don't know Rosie - while they look just a tad dated, they are also nice shoes. And if paired with the right outfit they can certainly stand for the right kind of edgy retro vibe. So I would vote keep.

I vote keep. They are comfortable and look good. I'm someone who expects clothes/shoes to last at least 25 years, though, and am a bit fed up if they don't so don't listen too much to me!

PS my MIL has a wonderful wardrobe full of things that went out of fashion years ago - when something 'new' comes in, she 'shops her closet' and updates what she already has in cunning ways!

Depends on how many other comfortable work pumps you have. 1-2 other pairs: hold on for now. More: toss.

I'd vote toss based on the toe shape alone. Color is good, heel is passable.

Tough decision. They are a little dated but at the same time they are classic. I don't think they look right with jeans, but could work in with a suit (pants) or trousers. Such a close call.
Honestly, if they weren't Ralph Lauren I'd probably say toss.

I vote for toss, they look slightly dated. Or keep somewhere in storage till the style comes back.

Rosie, this is so weird--I just went through the exact same dilemma with a pair of black ankle strap pumps when I was cleaning out my closet over the weekend. Same issue--I still like the shoes, but the high vamp screams 1998. They're now sitting in a bag next to my front door, ready to go off to my local thrift shop on Saturday. I'm trying to be ruthless about cleaning such items out of my closet now.

So much wisdom...I am glad that my conflicting feelings about them are echoed by others. I don't wear them very much, despite their comfort, because the style doesn't really "go" with me anymore. They are really nicely made and still in good shape for someone else. Also, I did buy them at a good sale price.

Rosie, I have very similar pumps in black suede (similar heel and toe shape with high vamp). The difference is - they are NOT comfy at all. They are very good quality Italian made shoes and I got them at full price. Now I think it may be time to retire them when I move.
