Keep or return...Nordies sale pink jacket

This picture is in another post about my difficulties with getting a jacket to fit properly. But, It's kind of buried in the post, so I'm starting a new one just about this jacket.

I really liked this jacket when I first tried it on. But, classically, I didn't like it as well after I saw the picture of myself in it. I think the fit may be off. Is it too big or just not right for me? DH thinks the fit is off too. Or maybe it's great and I don't know it. I apologize for the outfit. It's not styled in any way. I would wear it with dark denim clams or skinnies or white clams or white denim jeans and a white cami or tank.

Have you ever tried this jacket not belted as tightly? I feel that the length it's hitting you at isn't as flattering as it could be; although it fits you well in the shoulders

I'd suggest something that is maybe 2-3" longer at the bottom. Also; perhaps a different colour? I'm not fond of this pink, myself, but perhaps you are

I hate to be a naysayer, but I'm not feeling this for you either. I don't know if it's the pale color, which seems to wash you out, or the short boxy cut...but something isn't working here. As Angie would say, I think you can do better!

I'm not sure the problem is fit as much as cut and style. This jacket appears a bit boxy without the belt and it has a lot going on. The belt, the pockets, the sleeves...I get that it's a military look (which has a certain amount of humour in pale pink!)...but something about it ends up feeling "fussy." Granted, it is hard to tell at the moment since you haven't styled it as you would wear it and I'm sure it would look better with the clothes you intended for it.

I am wondering: You loved it in the store. Do you know what about it appealed to you? Was it the colour? The military mood? The fact that it was a light, casual jacket and you needed or wanted something like that? The fact that it was different from others you have? The idea that it would go with other things you own?

Maybe if we can isolate what you loved about it, we will also be able to figure out what's NOT working for you so well now.

I'm not loving this on you, Cileena - the lapel looks dated and I don't like the little chest pockets so high up. And the tie looks too much like a bathrobe tie. I'm sorry! But I know you only want things you'll love and wear. I agree with Suz - can you pinpoint what drew you to this jacket, so we can find you a better version?

The other thing about the one MaryK suggests is that the fabric has some stretch, so it wouldn't look as rumpled. Which might help a lot with the way it feels.

I think my rumpled outfit is throwing off the jacket. I'll post pics tomorrow with it properly styled.

I was attracted to the color, I love the shade of pink. I don't have any light colored jackets for wearing during our cool summers. I didn't realize it was a military styling, but you're right, it is. I seem to be collecting items with a military flavor to them. Hmm. Not sure what that's about...maybe I want to join the military?

I think that's a great idea. Post some pics the way you'd actually wear it. Maybe this jacket is perfect just as is! I guess, overall, it's a lesson to all of us that it really helps to see the entire outfit. It can be hard to judge when we're seeing one piece in isolation or with other things it was never meant to go with.

Cilleena, I vote to keep looking. If you aren't comfy now, you just will never wear it. I think you should look for a British khaki or an olive color. I feel a more neutral, seasonless color will be more useful. I know layering is key in Maine!

p.s. In your other thread, I love you in that ON camo jacket. Super.

Cileena - what happens when you leave this jacket open? if you tie it only in the back - so it stays open, but the ties don't hang (anyone remember doing that?) I wonder what it would do when the rest of your outfit isn't hidden?

I do like the one MarkK linked - the hidden waist ties are always nice - expecially for leaving it open, the contrasting buttons toughen it up a little, . . .

Cileena, do you have a long torso like I do? I only ask because I always tried jackets that had waist definition and then realized that the waist definition was too high for me.

To my eye, this jacket absolutely fits, and the fit is flattering. It's the colour that I would question.
