Keep or return, two trenchcoats

1/2 This is periwinkle blue trench from LL Bean. It runs a size big, so this one is a petite XS. If it's too big, there's no sizing down. LOL This one was expensive for me so I only want to keep it if it's a real winner.

3/4 I got this for a song, so I'd like to keep it unless it looks awful. What do you think?

Edited to add: Maybe it seems nutty to have two trenches, but we have serious weather here... mostly rain. I can see keeping both if they both work well, especially since one is longer than the other.

I think the periwinkle is a bit big on you ... Even at an XS!

I think the fit of 3/4 is better; in particular, this length works better for you in the back

Also agree -- the blue trench is too big for you. But living in the Pacific Northwest, I second your desire for more than one type of raingear. When you wear it as much as we do, you can start to get sick of it! Plus, some of them don't look so hot style-wise or color-wise with certain pieces of clothing. Sigh. Keep looking, I know you will find the perfect raincoat.

I like the 2nd one much better, partly because it is single breasted and I think that flatters you much better.

I agree! The 2nd one definitely looks like it fits better. I think if you do double breasted, maybe look for one that has the buttons a little closer together, I feel like these look really far apart and it make it look bigger... maybe just me

I think they would work, if you had them altered....since you are petite, I would stay away from the double-breasted ones, unless you convert to single-breasted. If you dont want to have them altered, I would return both....although the 2nd one is a better fit- maybe just the sleeves need altering?

I think the periwinkle one is definitely too big, which is making it look a bit sack-like. The black is much, much better, both in terms of fit and style. I like that it's single breasted and has a lower neckline - much more flattering. I do love the color of the periwinkle one though!

I vote return the periwinkle (not a good fit) and keep the black one. The sleeves look a little long, but that should be an easy fix. I think casual trenches like these are really useful here in the Northwest.

As much as I love the blue one, I'm almost relieved to need to return it. I could really use that $120 for tops that fit. LOL

What on the black one's sleeves needs to be altered? If the upper arms were any tighter, I wouldn't be able to lift my arms in front of me.

Posted at the same time as Sinead... is it the length of the sleeves?

I agree with the others, the blue one is unfortunately too large for you. The black is OK, but not amazing. It could be a preference thing, but I prefer trenches to have a much more streamlined look; this one has a bit of slouch to it. I also think it's perfectly fine to have more than one trench. I plan to get a second one this spring as well!

OK might be good enough since I got it for $30. Maybe this could be a decent stop gap for now and I could upgrade to a better one in a year or two?

The first one looks twice as big as you! I like the second one. If it's the Faded Glory one they also have it online in a berry color, black plaid and berry plaid if you aren't a big solid black fan. Online it's $20; not sure what they cost in store now.

If you have no trenches and need to fill other more urgent wardrobe holes I think this would do for now. Just want to say that I'm a big fan of making sure your outerwear is just as fab as your innerwear

Brenda I like that blue color on your! I have a double-breasted trench but the buttons are the same color as the fabric. I think if you find a double-breasted one that you like you might be able to switch out the buttons. The lower-contrast buttons make the double-breasted shape less apparent.
But I agree it's too big.

I love the color of #1, but sorry it is too big on tiny you. #2 is ok, but not great. If you need a jacket in a pinch I would keep, otherwise I'd keep looking for something in a brighter color.

I had to go look for that Faded Glory one... I like the berry color. My concern is that I don't think I can get a petite and my arms are too short for regular sizes.

I got the black one from Burlington Coat Factory. It's made by Weather Tamer which I've never heard of before.

Aida, I agree 100% though it's hard to manage that when buying almost a whole wardrobe at once. Yikes.

Another option.... the black trench also comes in white. Would that be a better color?

I really don't care for the black one. It looks great from the back and fits much better than the blue, but I think the waist on it is too busy in the front. You don't seem to have much room under your bust and with the studs on the belt loops, the belt, the pockets with studs, and the buttons I think it kind of overwhelms your waist, which it should be emphasizing.

The problem with the waist is that I'm long-waisted and 5'1". So I buy petites so the arms aren't way too long but the waists often hit me in the wrong place. That's the case with the black jacket.
