Keep or Return - Turtleneck - YouLookFab Forum

So I got this turtleneck sweater at Ann Taylor Black Friday sale and I have always loved turtlenecks and they are certainly cozy for our cold and wet Seattle winters, but due to my large bust generally don't buy a lot of as I don't want to look too top heavy. But I love royal blue and thought this color was so pretty and fun with the color blocking.

Pic #1-2 - How I ended up wearing it with no necklace and bigger earrings. Too busty? My hair up might also be throwing things off, perhaps better proportions with hair down.

Pic #3 - Maybe this is what I should have gone with. I almost always wear a longer necklace to break up all the space when I wear a turtleneck but was worried it might be too much with patterned tights and all.

Would also wear this with black pants or jeans so thinking proportions might be more balanced with it untucked so the length would balance out top a bit.

Am I overthinking this? Is it a keeper? I haven't taken tags off yet!

I really like it in #3 with the necklace and agree that hair down would help too.

When I was younger I had a figure much like your's. I don't have to tell you that it can draw a lot of attention -- and back in the day comments, even at work, from the "boys."

I think you look great but this is the kind of thing I purposely avoided to not draw too much unwanted attention to my figure, but you DO NOT look top heavy, just gloriously curvy.

I don't think you look top heavy Amy - like Kappy, I really like the combination in #3. I think that turtleneck is gorgeous and love the sleeve detail. And I don't have to tell you how gorgeous that colour is on you! I do think that hair down will probably make you feel less self-conscious though.

This is a beautiful color on you, and the blue-black combination is so nice and the turtleneck is what you need about now in the great Northwest. I agree with the others that #3 is my favorite, with the possibility of scrunching up the sleeves a bit to show your arms, for a little flair. I vote to "keep," Amy.

I like the color, and the fit is good. But echoing Claudia, it does show off your lovely curves. If you want to deemphasize I guess you could throw a jacket on top, but I like it as it is .

Turtlenecks are so odd to me.
I generally prefer them with no accessory (necklace, or dangly earrings) though.
I think I would prefer the look as is with your hair down, or with pants and your hair up.
I can't tell you why, though. O:)
FWIW, I do think it's worth keeping. It's lovely. Have you tried your fur vest over it?

Yay, we are turtleneck twins. (although with my blazers you never see the fun colorblocking). So of course I vote keep! (and your figure is lovely, I don't think this makes you too busty, do you see a bustline yes but it's not pulling and stretching like crazy, I think you are fine)

I think it looks terrific on you! BTW, my figure is very much like yours! I've been shying away from turtlenecks because I feel like they accentuate my bust, but seeing this on you makes me want to give it a try. I adore the color and it looks great on you!

First: color--gorgeous. And well-suited to your coloring.
Second--I think you're still in the parameters where you can wear this and not look "too much." Now, as another busty woman I know that a lot of it is personal feeling, so if you're self-conscious, that's another issue. But to an outsider like me, the look is shapely but tasteful and you don't look huge at all.

A side question: if someone is large in the chest, can turtlenecks work as a layering garment underneath something like a shirt with a v-neck that would mitigate the effect? There are cold days when a cover-up of that area is really critical!

Thanks for your thoughts everyone, I will definitely keep now. I'm not self concious about showing off my curves, totally fine with that and don't feel like I get any unwanted attention at work when I do, I just don't want to wear if unflattering. @Sarah - I totally agree on the hair down skirt and hair up pants thing, not sure why either! Love the vest idea, definitely going to give that a try. @Mochi, I think I would have to see the turtleneck under a v neck to make a decision, but definitely think you can do some layering with it. I did a turtleneck under a boatneck tunic last week. Totally agree that some days are just much happier with a warm neck without having to wear a scarf!

Amy this is beautiful on you. I am also large busted and I do not own even one turtleneck, but this is working well on you. I love your hair up! FWIW I would go without the necklace but keep the earrings. Definitely a keeper.

I think it looks lovely! I'd like to see those sleeves pulled down a bit further, especially with the no-necklace-hair-up version, so that you get a little extra vertical elongation. The color is gorgeous! I think this is the same turtleneck I was wearing in cranberry at the meetup. It feels lovely

I really like it with the necklace. And I love the color block sleeves. What I'm not sure about is the black cuffs with black skirt, although I like the choice of leather. Would a third color be too much? A different blue on the bottom maybe?

The whole outfit looks fantastic on you, in both jewelry versions. I especially like the way the necklace echoes the color blocking in the sweater. And your hair up adds to the sleek feel of the ensemble, too. Glad to hear you're keeping the sweater. I agree with you that the main thing is to have a flattering look and fit, and you've got it here. Another option for adding an elongating "v" is a long pendant style necklace, too.

I think you look gorgeous in the turtleneck. If this is a look that you wouldn't feel comfortable wearing to work, I totally understand. However, you should definitely keep the turtleneck in your wardrobe options.

I think you've balanced the top very well with that skirt and those shoes, especially with the necklace! Hair down would also help keep things looking balanced.

I like that turtleneck! I have a figure like yours but with shoulder-length curly hair, and I don't think I can pull this look off. You're lucky! I love that color and the color blocking on the sleeves is awesome. Wear this all the time!

You look great! I don't think you look too busty at all, and as another busty gal I'm very sensitive to that issue. I think your other curves balance you out nicely. I would love to look like this in a turtleneck! Now I may keep my eyes open for one that fits this well. And what a great color.

Amy, it's very hard for me to feel sorry for you with your *problem*! You look lovely and for some reason, I'd like to see it with trousers, too (do you do pleated?), hair down and the necklace. It could be very Lauren Bacall. The "masculiniztion" of the look might draw attention away from your very feminine curves.

Edit: Thanks for letting us see you struggle with an item of clothing. From your WIW's I always thought the clothes jumped onto your body and looked perfect everytime with no effort on your part, lol! This just makes us love you even more.
