Keep or return: Target skirt

I picked up this skirt the other day at Target. It seems well constructed, is made of cotton. If I keep, I'll probably rip the polyester lining out as it is too hot!

Tags are on, I can return!

Do you like it? Suggestions? And do I need to alter it in the waist? I tried a size down and it was too hugging in the back. But this one could be nipped. Or is it fine as is? WDYT?

#1 unaltered, black tank
#2 as-if altered, up to waist (but then is it too short?)
#3 as-if altered, a little less (longer length)
#4 coral top, unaltered
#5 textured blouse
#6 mushroom jacket
#7 closeup, unaltered
#8 closeup, as-if altered

I like it but I wonder how you feel about the length? I bought a cotton skirt last year that was about the same length, and it shrunk after washing and became too short for work. Not sure if there is need to have it altered, especially since it would be shorter then.

Good point about the length. I like the length in #1, but #2 is too short for me....And you are right, if it shrinks, I'm sunk!

It looks borderline a little short. You have nice legs for it but how do you feel about it? It is a cute style though. I have been thinking that lately I like things to hit about the middle or right below the kneecap.

I think it's a cute skirt for summer and don't actually find it too short. I love how you have it styled in #6 with the green.

Ah, I do like it altered, but if it feels too short that way, then that's that.

I like the skirt, but it does seem a little big in 1, much better in2 but then it could be a tad short, it looks fine to me but if you are worried about it then I say wait for a better fit. I think we are shoe twins, are those Fidji oxfords, Isis? Love 'em!

Meridith, I really like mid-knee cap length! Although #1 is an OK length. #2 is too short....

Hmmm, I could let down the hem about an inch, but then we're talking a fair amount of work on a target skirt.

Carole, these are the fidji oxfords! I LOVE them!!!! My first Fidji's and probably not my last!

I like how you have it in #6. I think it is fine as is, I wouldn't take it in because that will shorten it. I also wouldn't rip out the lining. That makes it a good skirt and keeps it in place. I have a bunch of these target skirts. They come out with new patterns and colors every season. They are great basic pencil skirts. I don't know what the care tag says but I get them dry cleaned because I like how they come out very nicely pressed.

Isis, this has been "My Life With Skirts" lately! I just let them ride on my hips to get the extra length, but then tucking doesn't work so well. Can we please get some high waisted midis at places like Target? .....ok, end of rant.

I love the pattern of the skirt, and I would rip out the lining too. Can you ask if you can return it if it shrinks? It looks really nice with those shoes and I love it with the jacket in #6. The pink T looks a little casual for the skirt, to my eye.

It looks good as is, from here at least. I especially like it in 5. I agree that altered it is pushing too short. That is a really nice print.

I'm glad you posted this because I have the same skirt in coral and was wondering about the fit. Based on the pics, I like it best unaltered mostly because of the length. I was between sizes and ended up sizing up. The 4 was verra verra fitted and the 6 is a wee bit loose but I think that will be better for summer anyway. I also read a review that said the skirt shrank a bit after a wash--something to consider. Love 5 and 6 especially and LOVE it with the oxfords!

Rita, thanks for chiming in on your experience with these skirts! A lining is a good thing, and I may wait a little to see if the polyester lining is really as sweaty as I fear....interesting idea to dry clean (or at maybe dryell). I get a lot of wears between washes with skirts, so dry cleaning wouldn't be that bad.

Claire, yeah, where is the length? Particularly at Target! I don't know what tall people do! I agree about the pink t. I do love the color (it's actually coral) and think I now need a coral woven blouse!.

I like it at its current length. One issue for me is when the skirt shrinks and becomes shorter than the lining - is there a lining?

I like the styling in 6. This could be great companion for some bright color. It does not look too big and for really hot days, you don't want it too tight or short anyway - you want easy, breezy and not confining I would think.

Delurking because I have this exact skirt and love it. It is right on the edge of too short for me but I only wear it with leggings or tights. I'm not big on patterns so this was a big stretch for me, but I like how it's super neutral being white, taupe and black.

I want to wear this as a summer skirt, so no leggings or tights for me.

I've not washed it yet. And now I am slightly fearful....but things like this I do not put into the dryer. This was $22.99, so my investment is kinda minimal. I have a similar skirt in black that I got last year on clearance for $4.99. It washed up fine, but again, I did not put into the dryer. I really like the patterned skirt and have gotten compliments. I wear with a black assymmetrical zip ponte knit moto jacket with a coral tank.

I like it! I tried that one but the cream background clashed with my skin. I'm a winter through and through.

FWIW, I have the same skirt in a medium blue and really like it. I agree with leaving the lining. If you take out the lining, you might find yourself needing a slip. I wash mine on gentle and hang it up. It comes out fine, though I think it needs ironing post-wash.... I don't remember for sure.
